Back safe and sound. Got a slight soaking near to home after a day of warm sunshine. Saw a big foc off cumulo-nimbus cloud, angry looking thing - stretched for miles - and was thinking for the last 30 miles, am I going under that? :eek Got closer and closer.....no, I'm just gonna skirt round it....no I'm not....oh sod it, here it is! Only 5 minutes under the edge of it, damp jeans, then dried out the other side. Another good day, good roads, nice scenery - just gonna have some dinner, then pics to follow.

So, went up to Shrewsbury, then A488 to Clun. Had a wander round the remains of the castle

-
Very nice , I'm on a day off Friday and fingers crossed for good weather as will head out that way , hope to go to the coast Aberaeron way via Llandovery
-
David, i wish i could join you, i think i may be out on Sunday, a south midlands spin, probably in loads of traffic :'( . just to keep my mate happy.
Nick has got me looking at smaller A and some B roads, he has found some ace roads joining our favourite roads up, i just did not think of it before,,exploring new roads, some close by.We came back on Sunday without using the A44, turned off it at Penybont, Dollau,Prestigne
-
Will be trying to keep off main roads Bill , looking at a few roads on the maps , may even venture out Sunday as well , the missus is working
-
If all goes well then Sunday will be meeting at Evesham country park entrance 9.am. ride down to Swindon , look around the stores and pick a route onwards or back.
All welcome

TBH Bill, a large part of the reason I go to Wales so much is that the roads around here are, on the whole, a bit pants :\ There are one or two short stretches that are fun, but it hasn't taken me long to get bored with this area. Too much traffic, and the surfaces are generally in an atrocious state.
-
Yes, but Ian wants to go to George Whites or whoever,,see whats on offer, so a couple of us will join him and maybe find a nice route after Swindon. So a steady morning ride to the shop it will be,,this time we wont be TT riding :lol
-
There's nothing nice after Swindon. Swindon is the soul-destroying end of the line :lol

We will find someroads, i see there is one that comes your way near Cotswold wildlife park, then on up

Just come back from a week in Wales. A44 from Aberystwyth to Rhayader. Fantastic road with so little traffic. The few lorries there were waving us past to overtake :D

You are correct, then from Rhayader there are some amazing roads there and nearby.Smaller a roads are sure worth trying out.

just bought OS landranger maps covering Presteigne/Hay on Wye also Elan Valley/Builth Wells. Last time I was over that way had a small road map that didnt have all the minor routes showing-theres some hidden gems alright!
Can anyone tell me why the road surfaces are generally so good in Wales? You certainly know when youre back in England by the potholes etc! :eek

I've got a Phillips Road Atlas that has served me well for many years now, shows most of the little roads too. Can't be many good ones I haven't done yet, then I'll have to look elsewhere I suppose. Already starting to explore the Marches. I'd love to live in central Wales, but bugger all work - that's why the roads are so empty, no one lives or works there.
Good road surfaces in Wales = EU subsidies?
I swear the surfaces turn from cart tracks to race tracks the minute you actually cross the border.
-
They didn't on Friday , a lot of resurfacing going on , still in a week or so they should be good again
-
Today we ride with middle England car drivers :lol ,to posher places, like Carterton,

Bill, just after you cross the A40 after Burford (roundabout), on the 361, there's a layby on your right. Meet you there.

Alot of traffic about but found some nice bits and pieces.
Now to sort the bike for touring, change screen,oh and fit FCE, tighten chain, and change oil,, one month till off,,,going to the Czeqrepublic. :)

So far this year I have been hit in the knee by a pheasant, had a sheep run out on me, had a red kite drop a dead rabbit on me, and now this feckin deer - that's it, I'm gonna kill every living thing I see until it's safer around here :2guns

Pheasant incident = Oxfordshire.
Red Kite and dead rabbit incident = Oxfordshire.
Muntjac deer incident = Oxfordshire.
Sheep incident = Wales.
Explain? :\
