fazer has gone to pastures new, for now i have reached the end of this bikes evolution as far as i feel it can go tastefully (and thats open to opinion)
enjoyed the 5 i have done and all the spin off that came with the mods done
i still will do plugs and shocks and will still be here as turning attention to the fz1 now (groan i here some say)

That's a real shame, I think your dedication to improving the Gen1 from cosmetics to handling and your willingness to share your knowledge and experience has benefited a shedload of folks. I'm glad you'll be sticking around and obviously the Gen1's loss will be the Gen2's gain.

Having said that, it'll be interesting seeing what you can do with the FZ1, and I'm sure it is time to move on, at least in terms of modding. The ol' Fazer is 13 years old and was probably designed 15 years ago.
And then I see that vid from sadandlonelygit murdering a track day at Cadwell, and …. then I think, it's still current if it can do that.

Us red owners need extra ballast to keep speeds down to Blue levels exup.....its just physics.....but devilsyam has a blue fz1 & hasn't deballasted yet so look out for some youtube videos of Christo passing him on a highly modified & restricted monkey bike with stabilisers.

It sure looks like you enjoyed yourself with them Gen1s, there will still be some asking for help i guess.
they look sweet when modded though,i really do like that last maroon one.You seem to have gained alot of respect ,here and over seas,

Thanks for the nice comments yes rear shock was the first move I have a penske on at the mo soon to b replaced with same type but remote so other b heading for ebay
Fronts have been updated to 2011 r1 units
Still have plans for the fz1

Well, you deffo know your stuff with these bikes, I'm looking forward to reaping the benefits of the things you try on the fz1. And if you start making stuff for the gen 2 , I'll be buying, given the attention to detailing you've always shown. You can be a bit errr..abrasive? ;) But Your commitment to yams is unquestionable, as is your ongoing quest to modify and improve... gotta respect that. All the very best Luke, and looking forward to seeing what's to come with your bike mate :)

Its a thing we all will face at some point. I have owned gen1s since 2001, when I bought my blue Y plate. Did 38k on that. Sold it for sprint 1050 in 2005, quickly realised it wasn't a direct replacement. Bought another gen1 in 2008 with just 8k on clock. That now has 42k up, and just been serviced , including some work by dealer. Who praised the bikes power and handling. That's 1990s technology against 2014 current bike range....so it kinda makes one think 2 questions ...
1. Is there a bike out there to replace the fazer ...kwak sx1000?...maybe new s1000R ( faired)...whadya think ?
2.If not , how long will it keep running ?...my only concern is the exup valve, as dealer reckons its wearing , and is reluctant to touch it ! I can see some rethreading being needed this year ( again ! )..it still works , but is getting loose due to end wear. But that could be a blessing in disguise...as it wont probably seize.

As I understand it both cost considerably more than a low mileage Gen1, the cheapest I could find an SX1000 for was £6k and the S1000 at £7.7k

Hey Jon, I'm pretty much the same. I put about 38ish on my lovely blue '02 one, traded it for a 54 plate with 8k on also in 2008. That also now has about 32k (or is it 36?) on it, but I'm starting to feel the urge for something different. I wondered about the Zed Thou SX but in the end I decided to get something totally different as a "second" bike tha would be a bit lighter and easier to thread through rush hour traffic in central London. Ended up with a Street Triple R. Nothing like the power of the Fazer, or the luggage capacity, but more suited to the kind of riding I do these days, and a lot smaller and lighter. Haven't really ridden the Fazer much this year, so in spite of new chain and sprocket, and barely used tyres, I'm thinking of letting her go. Feel a bit sad about it really as I've had Gen 1s for so long, but can't justify 2 bikes any more. It's amazing what a contender the old Fazer still is though – I just watched Sadlonelygit's track video!

Yes its eerily spooky cos I recently traded my 12 plate GS for a 14 plate speed triple !, to sit alongside my fazer...I tested loads out there tbh. Probably made some folk bored by it all...but really found nothing which floated me boat ( under £12k in any case ! )....so went back to my second love which is triumph triples. I was tempted by the street for sure, but being a bit on the large side, the speedy offers a bit more grunt to haul me round ! :lol...I think I got a reasonable deal , just had to offload the GS as it was approaching end of warranty...that's a long story , but suffice to say I wouldn't want any bmw without a mega warranty !! :\
fazer is all prepped ready for the 3k mile tour of Europe starting next Friday ! :)

Real shame your parting ways with the gen 1. What's your plans for fettling? Will it be gen 2's or something else?
