Title: cat.
Post by: bri h on 06 May 2014, 02:22:33 am
Im planning on fitting a new slip on exhaust on my 08 gen2. removing the exup cables looks doable for a ham fisted clot like me but the geezer in the youtube vid i just watched took out the cat honeycomb with a chisel. This looks a bit extreme to me so is it really nescesary?

No, it's not necessary, just makes you feel better to know the junk is outta the pipe.

But it will work fine with it in.

Left mine in 'just in case', and the bike still goes like stink.

It's a controversial issue, but some if those that have gutted the cat said they lost a little mid range because of it.
Might do mine today as I've got nothing better to do.:P

Took mine out and it was better for it, though my last mod was the pc3 remap to account for everything I'd done. Once you've drilled loads of holes you don't have to do much chiseling, it's just around the sides really, I used an old, large flat headed screwdriver. Then fire up the bike to blow out any bits left, making sure you havnt got got pets or loved ones behind it.. It's a very satisfying mod coz it's free.

I'd heard that guys were knocking their cats out with chisels, screwdrivers, and allsorts if time consuming hammer type things taking them hours!

I gutted my tigers cat (huh?) With a long wood boring drillbit (the flat blade type). Took me 10 minutes start to finish. Rough as fook engineering, and the bit gets ruined, but it's quick.
