Title: Steering lock.... you learn something new everyday
Post by: Fuzzy on 30 April 2014, 04:08:38 pm
After 4 years ownership, the other day I discovered that the steering lock also works when the bars are turned to the right.... thought I knew the bike inside out, clearly not!

Don't think my other bikes had this feature....or maybe I've just been a bit slow  :\

Cool, handy to know as I imagine it changes the degree of lean on the side stand :)

Just popped out to the garage to put the new tax disc on the bike and thought I would try this....both my 98 and 00 600 dont lock on full right lock......theres a plate welded on the yoke tube with a hole in it for the locking pin on left lock only.i think whats happening is on right lock the pin is slipping behind the end of the plate and parhaps my plate is slightly longer  not alowing this to happen........and yes I know iam a sad old foccer trying but after 12 years of ownership I had not noticed either    :lol

So it is not a design feature but an accident, I wonder it in that case it is a stronger hold on the right.

Lets get that bloke in the white trainers to test it for us

My Fazer defininitely didn't.

I know because my Varadero 125 did, and my friend's CBF 125 ONLY locked to the right!

After my first bike was nicked for a joyride with the steering lock I haven't bothered with it since.
The damage caused breaking the lock just added more to the repair bill when it was found and recovered!
Plus with the T'cat front end on mine there's not enough clearance to engage the lock anyway!

I've gotten quite lazy at work - my old chinese 125 used to get chained to the railings (that was when I was a lad, new to the game). Then I bought a nice new disc lock for my Fazer when I got it. I used to use it, but then my brake discs warped costing me a small fortune and the paranoia said it was the brake discs fault (absurd I know), so since then I haven't used it, at least in works car park.

If I'm somewhere I'm not keen on I will use it on the back brake (I haven't just spent £250 on that!), but very rarely.

In most cases it's steering lock only.

Sort your calipers out mate, they're sticking. Only way possible for a disc lock to damage a brake disc is if you forget to take the bugger off (don't ask me how I found that one out  :lol )

Past tense Mr Rock - they were sticking.
