Title: Carb tuning
Post by: emjaydee on 22 April 2014, 06:35:29 pm
I've heard it's possible to balance the carburetors by just listening to engine and adjusting the screws.
has anyone ever done this?

Thanks

While I've not heard of it done on a bike I've seen it done with a few cars. However, it takes a stethoscope and years and years of skill to achieve.

It's probably quicker to plug in the carb balancer, tweak the screws, and job done.

If it's cost that's stopping getting you a gauge (I wasn't willing to pay £40 for one, luckily mate has one) then there's a few vids on YouTube of doing it using home made stuff. The one I saw quickly used a couple of water bottles and some tubing. Seemed to do the job.

It takes a bit of perseverance doing it with the carb tune kit, so unless you're some kind of wizard I reckon you'll make a right pigs ear of it doing it by sound alone.
