Tonight at 8:15pm there should be a great clear skies for the ISS flyover. I saw it go over on Saturday and it was massive (for something 200 miles away anyway), well worth 5 minutes of your time.

Thanks for the heads-up. :)

Exupnut - I think that site is using a different Timezone, previously posted times should be correct as they are BST
-
And I've just noticed there's an Iridium flare during the ISS pass where I am this evening (anyone within a dozen miles of the line from Northampton to Chichester should be able to see that too).
-
the invisible spacestation just flew over wales, I know cos I used there tracker lol, seen sweet fa,
-
OH WOW, that was amazing! it was like a really bright star shooting over head, it looked like it flew right over us. I even woke up my 7 year old daughter to see it. Thanks for the heads up on this. Amazing to think people are up there! :)
-
Yep, brightest thing in the sky. Not as bright as on Saturday though - will be back at 9:50pm.
-
Missed it last time :o......try again at 9.50 :)
-
Jupiter and Mars are really bright at the mo too. Really should get the telescope out. We moved house last year and it's stayed up in the loft, time to get it down me thinks.
-
Missed it completely. Although summat in the South south west was bloody bright (and bloody static :rolleyes )
-
Was standing outside my local with a mate, the pair of us looking up into an empty sky like a pair of planespotters!
Didn't see it, plus people started staring at us. :lol
-
Found the full moon though........that was easy. :)
-
it could have been worse, a bus could have stopped for you . :lol
-
Been watching the flyovers for years and have seen them with the space shuttle right behind "chasing" it to doc.
Iridium flares are even more spectacular, the lower the number the brighter the object the station at the mo is -3.5 or somthing but a good flare will be -8
-
I just saw it
-
Got it this time :)
-
Ditto! Pretty funky, mad, never seen it flyby before.
So how come it started off really bright in the West, but as it went over to the East, it just faded away and seemingly disappeared mid way over?!
-
There is no lights on it , its just the angle of the sun shining on it, ask Noggy , he knows everything
-
sin it :D

I see, that makes sense. I guess in the West it catches the sun, but as it goes round it must sink behind the Earth's shadow.
-
I saw it too! Certainly very bright and very fast!
-
who was the Chinese looking bloke waving from the rear window? he had noodles hanging from his chin.

Yes, it went into the shadow of the earth. :)
The moon will be doing the same later (unfortunately after it's set from the UK's point of view, those in the Americas will get the show this time).
-
he must have turned the gas cooker off,.
-
229 miles up at 17100 miles an hour.....coooool. :b
-
I missed the first one, was expecting 2 to come along 2nd time around.
-
Tonight 9pm plus one minute later in the same sky is another satellite similar route

In the same sky huh? foccin hope so, don't want to have to travel to Mars to see it :rolleyes
-
Yup I saw it. Popped outside at 21:02. Shot across the sky and was out of sight five minutes later.
I gave em a wave, hope they saw me.
-
You should be able to see it again at 22:38 but for only up to 3 minutes.

Above the Black Sea as I type this - http://iss.astroviewer.net/ (http://iss.astroviewer.net/)
They wanna slow down a bit. Current speed 17138mph!
-
Saw it. Very cool.
-
Dorset Safety Camera team wanted to give a ticket for speeding. Guess it has to go that fast to keep up momentum to stop it falling out of the sky?

Me the Mrs and my Little-un where out satellite and space station gazing tonight. We spotted four satellites and one space station. My daughter asked why there were so many satellites in the sky... Mostly for communication but I also explained about all the space junk out there as well and showed her this before she went to bed.
http://spectrevision.net/2014/02/07/trawling-for-space-junk/ (http://spectrevision.net/2014/02/07/trawling-for-space-junk/)
She was horrified at, not only, all the rubbish that is left in the overflow carpark at Legoland but at all the shite we've left in space.

A pic of this evening's 9pm pass:
It's only a 15 second exposure, hence the short track... and I wasn't that confident of my aim, hence the wide angle.
If you can't make it out, here's the full resolution of the relevant bit...

45 minutes later there was an Iridium flare which I shot from the satellite platform you can see in the above photo.
It only lasts a few seconds and I had a two second delay on the camera to stop wobble so missed the start, but they're impressively bright if you're close to the centre of the track.

Awesome pic! (and a damn sight more than I saw yesterday!! :lol )
-
Great pics. I tried with the 1st pass of the ISS last night, but realised it was a star as it wasn't moving, missed the ISS completely.

Dunno how anyone saw yesterday's early pass, the sky was still very bright. The later one was better, but I totally cocked up the photo and while struggling with that, missed the Iridium flare that happened at the same time. :rolleyes

I think that was Venus or Jupiter, I spent a good couple of minutes looking at it too! :lol
-
I missed it the other night but am on nights tonight and tomorrow so will keep an eye out. So 2103 and 2239 seem to be the time for tonight?
