I've just bought the bike, it ran fine when I tested it but now it's got flat spots all over the place and quite a lot of vibration below 6.5k rpm. Is this normal or do I need to have a look at it?
Cheers.

All depends what you bought :)

Could be old fuel or water in the fuel if it's been sitting around for a while

Fzs 600 s. Guess it's down to the mechanics.

Hi Boomer,
Folks round here can probably advise but would need a little more info to really help. What's the bike's millage and what do you know of it's history?
They are a little 'buzzy' in feel, and some do have a vibration around 6.5k RPM, so if that's all your feeling then not a massive worry.
On the other hand if it's beyond the normal buzziness and all the way through the revs then maybe something simple like the carbs needing balancing. How is the idle? Is it lumpy? I.E. Once warmed properly up is it wandering around the revs, and if so by how much?
Or maybe it's not running properly on all cylinders. You can check the spark on the plugs quite easily, or you can throw cold water on the down pipes and watch to see if it evaporates evenly across the cylinders. I find one cylinder can be cooler at idle so I tend to give it just a few revs when doing this test. Or a non-contact thermometer can be used.
Have you checked the front sprocket? Sometimes they fall off; there is a replacement OEM part to fix that.
As always if it's been stood then fresh fuel, air filter, oil change, all the basic service items are in order.

More information vital to try and resolve the issue.
Fazers do not have problems just issues :lol

Cheers Andy,
I'll do the checks you said, buzzy at 6.5 for sure but also buzzier than I'd expect through the full rev range. It smooths off at about 7-7.5. Smooth like melted butter. It's always very vibey when engine breaking.
At 80mph in top gear all power dies and it won't accelerate beyond. All plenty of movement in the throttle but if I twist it on it bogs down completely. It feels a bit weak in general and can struggle off the line if I don't up the revs to over 3.5 before letting the clutch out.
I'll run those tests you mentioned tomorrow morning and report back.

Mileage is 22k with full service history.

Exact symptoms my bike had when I got mine but I knew the bike had restrictors fitted and that was the problem maybe there's restrictors in yours without your knowledge.
As for the buzzing, it was the metal bulb reflector inside the main beam housing.

Any mention of restrictors in the full service history :lol

Had similar issues within 100 miles after purchasing mine, found it to be filthy unbalanced carbs with water in and dodgy plug caps. Cleaned and balanced carbs, replaced caps and runs like a dream now. Water got in to fuel via rusted filler opening and damaged filler cap rubber.
