Title: Valve Cleaning

It's been suggested I clean the valves whilst the head is off. What's the best way to do this (what solutions/tools to clean?), and do I need to replace the valve stem oil seals or can they be reused if in good nick?

So watched a few videos, and it seems lapping/grinding is what I need, with something like this:

I'm going to order the kit now, but has anybody else done this? I'm guessing from the videos I watched that it's straight forward enough job, just time consuming.

Yep, straight forward enough job but is time consuming... I've managed 8 of the 16 valves in 10 months... woops...

You will also need a valve spring compressor if you don't already have one :) May as well check all the valve gaps and shims whilst you are at it

 To clean up valve heads,pop valve in a drill, low revs, fine emery and CAREFULLY remove any carbon deposit. Don't go up the stem, usually there is a step onto the stem where it fits the guide.Stay off the guide part.
 It helps to have the drill in a vice or workmate clamped solid. Better still a pillar drill or drill stand to take a pistol drill.
Don't wrap emery over the valve or you may trap fingers in it if it grabs, use emery flat.
