Ngk irridium spark plugs. Do they actually make a difference or is it just a waste of money. Was considering upgrading if they work.

Yep they make a difference ------------ in your pocket, just put the normal ones in.

Apparently they have a longer service life so could work out more cost effective but other than this (in a standard engine) you probably wouldn't notice any significant difference.

You're talking about £7 in total extra?
Hardly breaking the bank for something that will last longer is it?

I run a Range Rover on LPG and it is well known that plugs are pretty critical when running LPG. A set of standard NGK plugs are about shot in 10,000 miles but I've had NGK Iridium plugs that have still been good after 40,000 miles. So, if you are doing lots of miles, then the extra is worth spending. If you aren't doing the mileage, then it probably isn't worth it.

This usually comes down to the same result as discussions on premium fuel or engine oil; either you are happy to pay the extra for a slightly better part which may or may not be a financially better decision, or you just stick to the standard basic stuff.
I tend to go with spending that little bit extra and taking the risk that I'm "wasting" my money :) In general though, the Iridium plugs are supposed to have a longer life

I've had regular 60,000 miles from NGK Iridium plugs before any noticeable tailoff in performance; I.e slightly reluctant starting, increased fuel consumption. Worth the minimal increase in cost to me.

Thanks chaps. Reckon I'll give them a try next time I give it a service. It's not much extra really. I only use it as a toy so there's not loads of miles going on the clock.

bought mine from local auto parts supplier.......in 2009 for £26 a set done 20000 miles :)
