Post by: wheelywill on 19 March 2014, 07:22:41 pm
Hi have a prob with my ignition its fine just to turn the ignition on but if I turn the key over to the left to put the lock on that's fine BUT when I try to get it off that's when the problem arises yesterday it took at least 10 minutes today I was 20 minutes anyone have any ideas :'(

could be a bit of grit inside, try and flush it with wd, using the small tube supplied

Mine is like that, I used the lock twice, once the first time I rode it to work and then once when I got home to double check.  Both times took a good few mins of jiggling to get it off.

I have tried cleaning it, carbon lock lubricant etc They did make a bit of difference but not to the point that I am comfortable putting the lock on...

My key does look quite worn though, perhaps that is part of the problem.

I had this two weeks ago after the bike was sat for about 3 weeks. Petrol cap done the same, WD40 on both sorted it out straight away

The same happened to me a while ago and despite emptying half a can of WD40 through the lock and then lubing with graphite it still got stuck and took me a few minutes to free it.
I never use the lock now, it's tempting fate, also the lock is so easy to break with a swift kick to the bars it's probably not worth using -I always use a disc lock everywhere anyway.

Thanks to everyone for your comments, I myself have tried wd40 lots of and also tried the expensive stuff acf50 things haven't got any better so im very reluctant to use it again so I will invest in a chain and lock cheers Dave

If the ignition works fine then it is probably not a problem with the lock barrel but with how the bolt interacts with the frame.
