Title: Steering lock problem
Post by: wheelywill on 19 March 2014, 07:22:41 pm: Hi have a prob with my ignition its fine just to turn the ignition on but if I turn the key over to the left to put the lock on that's fine BUT when I try to get it off that's when the problem arises yesterday it took at least 10 minutes today I was 20 minutes anyone have any ideas :'(

Post by: NorthWestern on 19 March 2014, 08:31:14 pm: Mine is like that, I used the lock twice, once the first time I rode it to work and then once when I got home to double check. Both times took a good few mins of jiggling to get it off.

I have tried cleaning it, carbon lock lubricant etc They did make a bit of difference but not to the point that I am comfortable putting the lock on...

My key does look quite worn though, perhaps that is part of the problem.

I had this two weeks ago after the bike was sat for about 3 weeks. Petrol cap done the same, WD40 on both sorted it out straight away

I never use the lock now, it's tempting fate, also the lock is so easy to break with a swift kick to the bars it's probably not worth using -I always use a disc lock everywhere anyway.
