Interesting article and the theory makes sense... it would be nice to see it introduced, if only as an experiment.
I've also found having a rev happy car to slow me down on motorways... as it just doesn't sound right sitting over 4k rpm in a car and it destroys fuel efficiency :\
My friend had the same experience; drives slower in his RX-8 than he does in his diesel Focus :P

I used to have a Suzuki swift that revved up at 4k @ 70mph. It was painful on the motorway. It was like sitting in a resonating oil drum at that speed!

Interesting, but it depends a lot on driver attitude. For instance does Denmark have the same issues with tailgaters and middle-lane Larrys that we do? If not, that's going to skew the figures for a start.
