Title: PENSION CREDITS
Post by: DILLIGAFF on 17 March 2014, 11:39:19 am
YES!

I really am that old now, or will be in just 4 months.

I went on the GOV.UK website today and, by being a little "conservative" on my declared savings, found I may be able to claim an enhanced pension on retirement.

Now of course my question is.....................

Should I be Mr. Honest Joe Muggins and tell HMRC exactly how much I have worked hard for and saved all my life?

or

Should I be Mr. Average and "forget" some of my assets to claim Pension Credits?????

The dilemma is that if I do, can they catch me  :rolleyes ........................ if I don't, will I regret it???? :'(

BTW.   If you work for HMRC disregard this post as my account has obviously been hacked.

How about setting up a bank account in a relatives name but keeping all the documents and cards?

Well if your court you could be lucky and get a prison sentence, full board and lodgings.

Hide it under the mattress and if they ask where your savings went, say you spent it on coke and hookers? :lol

I would assume (and this is only speculation) that when interest is paid on your savings, a percentage of this is deducted by your bank and paid to HMRC using your national insurance number. This would mean that HMRC could probably use this to estimate the value of your savings.

As to what action they would take if they caught you out is anybody's guess. I suppose that depends on the scale of any 'fraud' and how confident they are that they can prove their case in court. Minor infringements may only involve a bit of finger wagging and a telling off.

If your assets include a dusty garage full of vintage motorcycles then it's happy days!

Depending on the interest you get and the gain lost by having too much, may be worth withdrawing a wadge and sitting on it/putting it in a box in the bank.

I think but don't know for certain that you give permission for them to check your info, to prevent fraud? so it's under the mattress the only place they can't look but the first place burglars look.
