Cheers Nick

Trek through wales tomorrow it is. 8)

I likes the sounds of that Mountain road, should be a nice bimble.

I've not been feeling overly confident on the corners today but i think it's just the temperature of the road isn't   allowing them to heat up enough as much...well that's my excuse outta the way :lol

God,that route brings back great memorie's,used those fantastic roads several times over the VFR/THUNDERACE years,my ex had friends in Llandrindod wells,so  we'd come in from Bracknell on  the M4,over the bridge (toll free for bikers, loved it!) and turned off into Abergaveny and do the majority of that route put up here, happy days  8)

if there's a sunday ride out,im in somerset now,so even nearer to the cafe at the bus station in Abergaveny if ever you organise a days bimble?

Hey Pilgo i'm sure there'll be plenty more rides to come so you're more than welcome, it takes me about 1hour 20 minutes just to get to Llandovery where i usually meet up & then it's off to Rhayader but through the little short cut to Beulah which is ace.(thanks slimwilly for showing me it).

Was good today because me & Nick keep our distance & whoever is leading doesnt have to worry about crazy manouvres from the guy behind...fun but cautious (ish)...the only road that was a little crap was the coast road north from Aber to Machynlleth...but it was means to an end & we soon got on the road from Newtown to Buith wells.

Nick has his video camera on for a bit but not sure if it was pointing at the right angle......plus if it shows my shit riding he might not show it :\

Just goes to show how much fun you can have on a 13 year old 600 for not much money. 8)

Im glad you enjoyed the day you lucky bleeders. It looks like a great route, i know some of the roads and they are so much better than the overcrowded pot hole strewn mess we ride on around sunny bracknell haha. Im planning on using the A40 next time im out that way, to landovery and pitch my tent. then wing it from there. I work on the theory that your not lost if you dont know where your going in the first place

Ay oop Nog, home and safe.

Got back at 8pm after largely following traffic in the dark with a visor that kept misting  :rolleyes

Great day, longest one day mileage for me (on just a day out) at..........407 miles  :)

Sorry I got muddled about the mountain road mate, must have been the one from Builth that I was thinking of; we'll do it another time p'raps - but that A481 wasn't bad either eh?

Hill fuel (oh the things you miss out on Bill!  :lol )

Hmmm nowt heard from Nick yet, last seen at Buith Wells about 1700hrs, ive text him but got no reply, tried phoning..phone switched off.

Think i'll post something up asking if anyone has his house phone number for  & i'll try pm to him.

I think he would have been on here by now to wind Bill up or let me know he was back.

Edit...good timing Nick, didnt wanna just leave it incase you were in a ditch or somethin....but kinda suspected you & technology not switched on could have been normal. :)

Double edit...i was pretty accurate with my prediction of you winding up Bill asap :lol

this is what i need, ive been off the road for around 10 years and im the first to admit im a tad rusty,so the thought of riding with fast road riders isnt to appealing at the moment, its 'to my ability or see ya there',i have no problem with letting people clear off as long as im comfertable in my riding. so i'll keep a eye out for your  next mid week bimble (less traffic dibble around mid week!)  8)

Cheers bri. I haven't been in one piece for a loooooong time!  :lol

@ pilgo
Anyone welcome on these rides  :)

We didn't exactly hang about today, leastways not by my standards, but we keep it safe. We swapped leads at breaks, and no overtaking each other unless the leader gives a clear signal for the other to do so. We keep plenty of room between us so the leader knows he can ride without having no. 2 biting at his heels and so can relax and take whatever lines and speed he wants with no interference from the back marker.

That was a 13 hour day in the saddle for me!  :b

Pilgo..you got well more riding experience than me & if you had a thunderace etc then there must be mojo still within and waiting to get back on it.

Im also off next monday to friday if you or anyone else wants a bimble, weather depending, i'm happy going at any speed so as long as everyone is having fun that's the main thing.

As long as I can get a few days notice I should be ok, work has -finally- calmed down a bit... been very hectic over the past 2 months

I've said it before, but it'd be nice to get a proper FOC-U group together for a Wales run. Me and Noggy want to do a camping trip at some point, although the best I can do this year would be a long/bank holiday weekend (or might be able to take a day or two off unpaid).  Exupnut has expressed an interest in doing a LoFos special to Wales at some point - any other LoFo takers?. If any others would be interested, how about some ideas for dates? Whether for camping weekend or just a day run.

Me too. I dream about those welsh roads. My dad lives in Hereford and said he would put a few of us up if needed meaning we could travel down the night before taking the sting out of the journey. A weekend in the summer sounds good.

Hmmm, a bank holiday weekend might have been better Nogs - having said that, I'd possibly be up for more than one weekend  :)

So, of your dates, the 16th and 17th would be best for me as the earlier is too soon after mine and Mids Europe trip, and I'll probably have to sleep for a couple of weeks after that   :z

And don't ask me to do mysterious computery-type things like cut and paste - evil black magic that is   :eek  :lol

Nice shots Noggy  :thumbup

The fog really adds a touch of mystery to the scenery, like something from Arthurian legend! But drove to work in it this morning and could barely see the kerb, so don't think I'd have fancied it on the bike.

When I'm riding on my own, I tend to stop a lot more often for photography too. You found some interesting spots there; don't recognise any of it. What route?

I've looked at the video footage from our run on Wednesday, and the camera was pointing too much towards the tarmac, but you are in shot for most of the Llangurig to Aber bit - perhaps interesting to us, but not to others.
I also got the A481 return to Builth. Same problem, but it does give a good idea of how twisty the road is - hardly a straight to be seen! Also quite a lot of glare in that bit, as we were heading into the sun; if the camera had been at a better angle I'm not sure it could have handled it, being a cheapy n all. Might put a short bit together to post if I get a chance this weekend, or might decide it's just not good enough - hmmmm.........

You sure are shrugging off those winter hibernation blues - might have to throw a couple of sickies from work!  :b

:lol )

It was the B4574 Nick..the road ive been wanting to do for some time...running parallel to the A44...it was a nice road but man i was cold to the bone with all that fog....on the pic with the winding water in the background...that water is the start of one of the resorvoirs....cronfa ddwr craig goch...the wind was hurling the fog through & every so often you'd get a glance of the water opening up...a shame really i was in stunning scenery but couldnt actually see much if it but i defo think that road would appeal to some foccers interested in scenery.....instead of going straight to rhayader theres a turn off which joins you to the Ellan Valley circular.

Yes the 44 is a must do fast road but these are equally enjoyable going slow.

Off to celtic manor tomorrow for a spa day, evening meal & overnight stay so im being prised away from the bike for a couple of days.

However it is crazy to go all the way to Newport without nipping into south wales superbikes showroom :b , ill chuck my kit in the boot i case i blag a test ride on an MT09 or anything really.

I'll hope to get more Welsh pics next week to let everyone see what they need to come see. 8)

What a bummer 16th and 17th would have been perfect but I'm on dayshifts and have no leave left. Off for a week from the 20th though.  why can't all foccers work the same shifts lol

The little mountain roads are often my favourites - a different kind of riding, slower, more technical, and often where the best scenery is. That's the trouble with doing the fast stuff - you get so committed, you don't want to stop for the scenery! Will have to check that one out sometime - ta for the tip  :thumbup

Test riding? Being back on the  :faz again hasn't stopped you hankering for something else then? Hmmm, thought it really was just winter blues, but looks like you might need to upgrade - lovely FZ1 for sale at the mo in For Sale & Wanted - everything done to it that you could wish for, shiny, shiny machine, only£4.2k, much cheaper than buying new, have a look, have a think, you know it makes sense!  :b

Just a bit of window shopping Nick, i love my wee fazer but it is a bit rough round the edges & no doubt needs a few bob spending on it over next couple of years...if i can save in the meantime thats great.

I really dont know whats out there, only ever had the fazer, i wanna try out seating positions & stuff, that position & a newer bike is more priority than extra power...although i wouldnt turn down extra power.....only a fool would :)

My fazer could handle shite & i'd be none the wiser as i don't know any better.ive either gotta spend up to another grand getting it as good as it can be & bite the bullet...or get the use outta it for 1 or 2 years then upgrade to something newer...i'd like to get this knocking noise diagnosed & see what the damage is to the old wallet.

I already commented on Dek's bike....it got my juices flowing...plus i woulda lived being on a faster bike than Bill :b

Dead Eye's happy he did it - you could be too  ;)

Pretty sure that knocking is wheel bearings. As I said, couldn't detect any movement in steering bearings, but definitely felt it on the wheel. Most places will happily check for you for nowt.

Got to get the chain kit replaced before I do another long ride Liam - was booked in for tomorrow, but looks like the rear sprocket hasn't arrived yet, have to call first thing tomorrow. Chain is proper shagged, about 4 seized links, no tight spots - just one slack spot  :lol

So sick of England's moto-X track roads, it'll be Wales at every opportunity this year I reckon  :)

If theres any crap weather days ill book it in to get done pronto.thanks for the help.

Cheers Red, mighta known youd pop up when someone mentioned sheep eh.....where's CRH mehhhhh!!!...ye i did think about taking the tank bag off, if i'd known how nice the pic would be i would have done, maybe replaced it with a hot female........or a cold sheep! :b

Camping wise...i. Sure theres a few options where theres showers and toilets etc......sadly im on a no alcohol for 1 year challenge so im not particularly arsed about being near a pub as it should be more about the riding i reckon but that depends on the general concensus....if folk wanna be at the pub then thats what it'll be....if most are happy with a carryout i stead then great.

dont start old CRH off again  :rolleyes ...hes gone quiet latley...i`ll have to check dates for the camping trip as its turning out to be a busy summer...not sure how many days holiday or brownie points i have.....

I usually head for the campsite at Llandovery for mid Wales. Café and shops on the doorstep, good shower facilities etc, and on the doorstep for the finest riding  :)
But if anyone has other preferences, I'd be ok with that. Not a great drinker myself, but happy if people want to hit the pub in the evenings too - but this trip is more about giving folks an opportunity to experience the great Welsh roads, so probably not a good idea to get completely wasted in the evenings anyway  ;)

I'd be up for a bank holiday weekend to do this as well if there are any takers - if not, I'll probably do a second trip anyway  :D

Well, I should be able to make it. Especially if it's just a day run, but might be able to ride over on Friday evening for camping on Fri. & Sat. nights. I'm supposed to be doing a long weekend up in Snowdonia at the end of August too, but I've had to tell em it's only a maybe for me (if I can somehow wangle the Fri. and Mon. off work with no holiday entitlement left).

All weather dependant of course  :rolleyes

I think we should still plan for a full weekend. Then, if anyone can't do that, they could still join us for a day of fun on them roads. If you plan for less, less is what you'll get  ;)
Pity so few are interested though. This thread has been up for long enough for plenty to plan it in. This is what it's really about for me - the riding. And there's nowhere better in Britain for that.

Well midden im certainly up for a rideout.......it is long overdue and i have the weekend off.........looking at the weather it looks like it will be cool and overcast with the slight chance of a shower towards the end of the weekend.....i think it'll be perfect biking weather and you never know it could be the last chance we have of decent weather for a while and soon it will be foccin cold and gritty again.

Like Nick says...it's all about the riding....& camping over will allow a better chance of more riding.

I might just doss it though and use my Bivvi bag as i dont have a bike camp set up.......im quite sure ill survive on fish & chips and cafe coffee :)

But is anyone else going though?
