Hi, I need some new downpipes on my '99 fzs600, as far as I can see there are 4 options, delkevic, sandy spares, motad or m and p. any recommendations? The motad ones are about £100 more expensive than the others, money well spent ?
Thanks for any advice.
Cheers

I believe the Motad ones have the balance pipes between cylinders 1+2 and 3+4 which are generally recommended however I put Sandy Spares ones on my 600 and they are still lasting well... hell, they even went through a garage fire

Go for the Viper system made in the same workshop, by the same people, using the same design as the Motad system. It's the same product, but cheaper at around £170 on eBay.

I was going to buy a second hand set from Deefer666 for a VERY agreeable price.
Sadly, my funds evaporated and I had to let him down.
Might be worth seeing if he's still got them.

I've searched eBay but no luck :\ I can only find viper end cans and link pipes, no downpipes ? Do you have a link ?
Cheers.

My first Fazer had Sandy Bike Spares downpipes, and ran fine. I guess I'll find out how good the Motads are when the engine is rebuilt

Got my motads from motad for £170 including postage. I don't see how the others can be £100 less than that!?
-
Venom is the model name, not make, hence they are Motad Venoms.
Every now and then they put them on eBay at the reduced price, if not found on there phone them directly and ask if they have them at £170 as previously seen.
-
The only motad ones I've seen are approx £280, I'll ring them and see if I can get a better deal, thanks for the replies.

Sorry it's the Venom as Punkstig has correctly pointed out. Soz.
They are Motads but marketed under a different name so those dealers selling Motads more expensively don't get cheesed off at being undercut.
There was another thread on this exact topic recently and the other bit of information that came up is that they are only dipped once in the chrome bath, not twice as the Motads are. Other than that they are identical and made by the same people.
-
That makes no sense, you can't chrome stainless.
-
That's what I thought ? I'd much prefer the stainless look to the chromed look so the venom ones are out for me.

What on earth are you talking about, the motads are stainless, and as such have a stainless 'look'

If this is true, it wont be a chrome plating bath, it will be Electroplating....

Aaahhh, I see :D
-
Sorry, I'm not doing very well here am I? Sorry for the confusion.
What ever the process is the Venoms get dipped in it once, the Motads twice. Other than that they are identical.

Par6, how did you get on? I ordered some Venoms on the strength of this thread and put mine on yesterday. I found a few differences between new and old though, which this reply on the other thread would bear out:
(I also asked him about the restrictor point near outet). "The outlet on the downpipes is the same size as the Yamaha pipes because it is designed to work with the OE gasket in place, again though,a lot of the Chinese parts are designed with larger tubing to do away with the use of gaskets. The pipes are made out of the same material by the same people here in the factory..like i said, these were introduced for one reason only..to compete against the Chinese and keep the Motad brand separate. You can order direct on 01922714700,the price will be £139.99+ £12.86 postage."
I don't know what the old brand of stainless pipes were, but the steel was a lot thinner than the Motads (to the point where I thought I'd bought the wrong pipes!), and there were no gaskets on the head.
What I found was that the pipes were leaking through a corroded weld (which is why I looked at replacing them in the first place) and they couldn't have been a good fit to the head. I say this because when I took them off, the clamp plates were all bent to shit, and the head studs were bent as well. Probably by a guy who overtightened the nuts to stop any leaks, so obviously the clamps were too thin as well.
The Motad Venom pipes were easy to fit, bolted straight up, no messing about tweaking them to fit so I'm happy with them.

As an update, I've also noticed that the flat spot between 6-7k rpm has now gone. In top, the pick up is much better between 80-100 now, no hesitation. :D
-
I haven't got round to doing anything yet but I think I will contact motad (venom) and ask the how much for a complete system of venom downpipes and venom end can.
-
Good idea, but there are two Venom silencers for sale on here for next to nothing so I'd just ask about the downpipes. ;)

Went for this last autumn, I'm sure I only paid around £230-240 ish for the lot, including gaskets. No complaints so far. Fitting is pretty easier, but make sure you've got a 1/4" socket set with long reach bar about 15-20cm long. A toque wrench is handy too, think Lidl or Aldi had them in on special this week! Have a gander on my blog for a quick write up on fitting.

I'm bidding on the one on eBay and it seems the other one is a bit expensive if they can be had brand new for £99 !
