Excitedly started on the job to replace chain and sprockets on my 04 gen 1 (beats Xmas shopping) and I can't even get the front sprocket nut off! Following all the Haynes guidance such as put in gear and put rear brake on hard but it won't budge. Sprayed it with WD40 and gave it a few gentle knocks with a hammer.
Did anyone face this and if so how did you overcome it?
I need help quick before I have to go back in the house.

PS Assume it is anti-clockwise to remove

Nut will and should be tight. Use a breaking bar,and check you are turning the right way!

Never done it myself, but may I sugest to get some assitance and as sugested above, a three foot bar on the socket, wheel the bike up to a wall, put it in top gear and try then, you may need to sit on the bike and hold the brake on if the wheel turns. If you were local, (Chelmsford) I'd happily give you a hand.

Thanks for all the advice and help.
After whacking a manual impact driver for 10 minutes, lubing with WD40, and wrenching with a 4ft bar it finally came off. I can't believe how tight it was and will definitely be buying an electric impact driver for next time!
One little trick as I was on my own was using 3 bungy cords to hold down the brake pedal - attached to the centre stand. It held the brake completely firm.

big breaker bar with someone standing on rear brake lever worked for me...assume you have straightened the tab locking washer.

i used the wife to shand on the brake pedal proberly the only use she has ever been in the garage i recall anyways

Undo it before you take off the chain, either with a an impact wrench (recommended) or put a piece of 2 by 4 through the wheel over the top of the swingar, wrap it in rags to make doubly sure it does'nt scratch anything, works for me.. :)
