Title: Alternative can to Scorpion?
Post by: clunkie66 on 24 February 2014, 09:23:07 pm
Hi all, have been riding my 03 Fazer thou for a week and am finding it a bit difficult to live with the Scorpion can that came with the bike - it's a bit too loud for my liking.

Judging by the photo, there isn't any way of fitting a DB killer as there was on a Scorpion I had on an old DRZ supermoto.

I'm doing a 2k European trip in the summer and would like a can that's a bit less intrusive....any suggestions?

Thanks guys, I have seen those on eBay so definitely an option. I presume they're for road use with the DB killer and would pass the mot without any probs?

Cheers

I'd also look at Fuel and at MTC Exhausts.  Very well made cans, good value for money IMHO.

Why not put the standard can back on for your trip if you still have it. If you don't, they are cheap as chips on Ebay ??

Keep an eye on ebay, you can pick up a standard can for under £40, they come up on here as well from time to time.

how loud are those delkvics?

I do a 25 mile stint on the motorway to work and got fed up with the BBBRRRAAAAAAAAAAA when on the fireblade, I want something fruitier than std but not over loud

Was thinking of a simmi/SP but not sure about the length, 350 seems the norm

The Fuel can I have on mine isn't overly loud - nice burble around town, but doesn't try to murder your ears under WOT at high revs. Being young and completely ignorant of my hearing, I wouldn't mind it a little louder, so it would probably suit someone not wanting something too loud.

My Beowulf on my 600 is pretty damn loud though... considering putting it on the thou, but the only thing that stops me is that it's not in as great condition as my Fuel one :(

I bought a set of Venom cans (Motad) off ebay for my thou v strom and well happy with build quality. They have 2 removable baffles one at front and one at rear, so you could mess about until you get required noise levels.I think motad are selling them cheap for a new range about to be produced. Only £103 delivered! Here is a link -

I've got an SP can on my boxeye. VERY LOUD and I run it with the baffle in. In hindsight I would have done a bit more shopping around but it came at a good price, the build quality is pretty good and it looks nice on the bike and was the look I was after.

I run a Beowulf Warrior on my Gen 1 and that's definitely a nicer, deeper sound with the baffle in and it's not intrusive on a ride out.

Lez, do you have any photos or vids of your Beowulf Warrior on the Gen 1? I have one on my 600 and as mentioned, I'm debating moving it to my Gen 1

The larger the cans internal volume the quieter it will be (like for like) assuming the same 2" internal pipe. A 250mm small diameter SP can will be ear bleedingly loud where as a 420-450 large oval or tri oval will be much quieter with no loss of power. Stick on a small can with a DB killer in and you will lose power to keep noise down.

Looks or stealth, its up to you  ;)

I have a Scorpion oval on mine which I shortened, It's pretty quiet at low revs but you can hear a nice note when giving it some.
