Hi Guys.
I have just cut n pasted this from the Explorer forum.
I received this from John Mitchell National Chairman/South East Region Representative of the Motorcycle Action Group earlier today:
You may have heard about the death of Jade Clark, a 16-year-old who was
killed when she was hit by Brian Hampton, on the A31 while on her moped
travelling to work in February 2013. Banned for drink-driving at the
time, Hampton not only didn’t stop, but he then attempted to cover up
his involvement by having his car repaired and lying to his family. He
was sentenced to six years in prison – two for causing Jade’s death by
careless driving and four years for perverting the course of justice.
He has now decided to appeal his sentence because he thinks it too
severe. MAG thinks he should be locked up and the key thrown away.
This petition was created by Robert Parker when he heard the news. So
far it has just over a thousand signatures which is not enough. It needs
10,000 to get noticed; and 100,000 to get to the point where it can’t be
ignored.
I would like to see it get that 100,000 signatures. Every signature counts.
You’ll find it at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/56314 (http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/56314)
Feel free to sign or not as you see fit...personally, I've signed it although I think jail is too good for him.

If he's a scumbag, 6 years of prison will make him worse. If he's a man, living with what he did is punishment enough. Both ways I find this (and similar) petition like something below a decent man - let the courts and judges do their job. If you want to make the world a better place, start with yourself.

In my opinion, even attempting to appeal should increase his sentence

Fecking sickens me that he is only given 2 years for causing a young girls death but 4 for fucking lying about it!

He lost his appeal.
-
He lost his appeal but the judge didn't increase it. To make it worse, the 4 and 2 year sentences probably run concurrently meaning the feccer will be out and driving again (illegally) in less than two years. Lets hope someone in the prison makes sure he doesn't have an easy time in there.
-
I was under the impression that the sentences were supposed to be run sequentially (in this case) such that he had 6 years in jail?
-
Signed!
-
Deadeye, your right. In this case they are consecutive but that still means he will be out in about 3 years.
-
Consecutive! Thank god, you have no idea how long I spent trying to remember that word, it was driving me absolutely insane

If you think an offender's conscience is sufficient to reform him and, in cases where it is not, prison only makes him worse, then we might as well empty the jails and disband much of the judicial system. I agree that the UK prison system is embarrassingly ineffective at discouraging re-offending when compared to the Scandinavian version, nevertheless, jail is where this person should be.
Considering that he did this when he'd already been banned, left the kid he'd hit in harm's way and drove off, and then thinks that his sentence is unduly harsh... I don't see much evidence that his conscience likely to be bothering him. What seems more probable is that he'll consider any future driving ban with the same contempt as before. At least if he's locked up, he's not on the road.

Exactly! At least from my country's perspective, if UK is different on that matter, I do apologize. In my country: one year in prison is too much for a decent man, while even 10 years in prison for a crook will do nothing - he'll come out more connected and ready to do bad things. Here prisons make people worse, bring out the worst in them, most of the time.
I'd go with lean punishments, re-socialization. If the offence reoccurres, then I'd either check what's wrong with the system, or kill the individual reoccurring offender. Prisons create problems and make people worse. Harsh laws don't make societies better - just look at the USA.

There is a reason that the death sentence will never be put to referendum here: people would vote to bring it back for the worst offenders. They don't want that.
-
Signature added. Hands up and take responcibility for youre actions. The parents have a full life sentence! No daughter to buy christmas presents for or birthdays! Living longer than youre children is something I wish upon no one. Sleep easy!

Im looking forward to my homeland getting independance when death sentences are sure to be introduced.
There will be 2 choices....-death by being clubbed by empty Buckfast Tonic Wine bottles & shouts of "moan then!"
- or a slow & agonising death by irn-bru, tatty scones & deep fried pizza.
Scotland-where lethal injection is classed as a Vitamin Supplement! :b
