Title: Lofo/Middle Earth ride Sun 2nd March
Post by: Exupnut on 11 February 2014, 11:53:28 pm
hi all....here are the details for the next ride...spoke to Bigsteve and Chris.biker and the plan is for a group of lofo's to meet and drive up to market Harborough for some breccy..and another group to meet up with bigsteve and chris.biker @melton Mowbray...and we can do a ride around that way with chris planning a route.that will take in the road between the two towns... a very good road to ride I am told..... it will be a bit of a jaunt for some but as allways well worth it..and if Eddie and Val can drum up a bit of business..then we gonna have a good rideout..times and details to follow so look out for chris.biker's posts...

I am working on a route which I am happy to lead from Market Harborough or Junction 20 of the M1 if that is how most are making there way into Middle Earth. The route I have in mind is nice twisty roads a distance of 100miles  googles time for that 3hrs so add on a couple of tea stops. (that is the route starting from and finishing at Junction 20 of the M1.
So how is it sounding as an event.

I will check the calendar as I would love to make this one and meet some of you. The rideouts always seem to be miles away from me and I work most weekends but this one is fairly local so could be possible  :)

So, 100 miles to Market Harborough, 100 miles zooming about, 100 miles back home. Gonna be a long day! Definitely dependent on weather, don't fancy doing that distance if it's pissing down.

Damn, already committed to another ride that day, must say not keen on the first and last bit, but the middle bit sounds perfect, sounds like beam me up Scottie! :'(

Fun times to be had :)
Won't hear Deadeye moaning about a bit of distance and a little rain.
But then he has taken over Roy of the Rovers place in my heart ;)

This looks very plausible for me, it's a good route and there is a nice/nasty hairpin (for me anyhow) at http://goo.gl/8vyI2e (http://goo.gl/8vyI2e)  :-).  My favourite route is this one: https://goo.gl/maps/474jY (https://goo.gl/maps/474jY)

A week to go, what time is the planned meet at M1 jct 20?

Want to plan a route from Essex that does not spend all time on M25 and M1 travelling up and squaring off my tyres.

I am not to worried what time we set off as I live in the area, I have looked at the long term weather forecast and it is saying unsettled possibly very wet and cold. It would be nice to see a who are planning on coming now it is a week away.

If it's rain showers I'll come along, if they forecast crappiness then I shall leave it.
Be good to do though as I should have the Nitron rear shock and front forks rebuilt with new bushes and Ktech springs on Saturday!

I've booked the day off work for this one but as others have said, if its raining its a no go for me. Totally weather dependant. Sad, I know but I ride my bikes for pleasure and I get very little pleasure from riding in the pouring rain.

Looks very similar to the "Rutland TT" in Bikers' Britain tour book. Apparently there's a good diner just off the route at Great Casterton - "finest burgers and milkshakes in Britain". Mmmmm  :)

Right can we stop talking about food you're making me hungry,

some questions about Sunday what time do we plan to meet at jct 20 of the M1 and is there going to be a mass LoFo ride up and where are we meeting?????

I'd rather have some non-motorway time rather than all M25/M1.

As well as meeting times, where is there for us all to park up at J20 M1? A layby, service station, what?

I was planning on everyone gathering in the entrance to the travel lodge on Rugby Road Lutterworth. You come off the M1 at Junction 20 and head east towards Lutterworth and then turn right again towards Lutterworth and as soon as you join that road from the roundabout you take the Right turn.

Chris, I think you meant to say turn WEST off M1, what time shall we meet 11am/12? if we LoFos meet at 9 (wherever we meet) that gives us 2 hours to get to you and just enough non-motorway playtime.

Any other LoFos like to make any suggestions?

I can be at blackheath for 9 aswell but maybee we should meet somewhere more convenient for ALL lofo's to get to. Ace looks good if we wanna shoot up the A6 so maybee blakheef @ 8:15 and move to ace for 9. That gives us 2 hours to get to market harborough for 11. That sound ok? Who's comin anyway ...red ceri, kit, midden, red, dazza, stig, bri, Arfa, grandma, me..Anyone else?

Weathers looking pants folks. Shame really as I've been looking forward to this one. I went to the Mallory Park open day today with the Mrs and the weather was lovely with loads of bikes out and about at the event and on the surrounding roads. I suppose it's too much to ask for 2 decent days in a row yet  :(

Hate to admit it but don't fancy riding home in the pissing down rain that is forecast for 2pm onwards, plus the winds are supposed to be 20mph, wind and rain not for me.

I'll probably do the Burnham bends in the morning before the weather closes in.

Lets see what next week brings

I think that's best unfortunately. Also, it's already freezing outside here, and we've had rain, so likely to be very icy in the morning. Don't think the bike will see daylight at all tomorrow. Fingers crossed for next weekend.

Bit gutted but it is what it is. No point doin the ride if people are bowing out as the whole point of the rideouts is to get as many people as possible to turn up. If anyone wants to meet somewhere for some breccy tomorrow morning in london please post up as the rain is due about 2 ish.

We definitely need to do this one at some point though. If you guys do it next weekend instead I will have to miss out as I'm working (like most weekends) but please come over to the midlands again in the future as it would be good to put some faces to names. Gutted about this one to be fair as I have booked time off now  :(

I'm don't mind riding in the wet but it's certainly not my favourite pastime and it certainly takes the edge off a good ride out on twisty, scenic roads. Plus with the amount of salt they are still throwing down on the roads over our way it would turn the little boxeye into a right proper mess and she doesn't do salt.

Bloody British Weather  :(

I'm a bit gutted too about this one as I was all geared up for it but do think it was the right decision. Wind and rain definitely takes the fun out of it and with such a long distance to cover and a good twisty route planned it certainly makes sense to put it off. Just a shame that some can't make it next weekend. Roll on the summer and a little weekend trip to Wales I say.

Absolutely right, chucking it down big time at 9pm. Managed a dry run to Rye Harbour Cafe, but tide came in very fast and had to move bikes so they didn't get swamped. Marks on cafe door show how high it came at Christmas, so wasn't going to chance it.

My normal routine when watching 6-nations games would be screaming at the tele, giving the ref advice (I'm allowed being a qualified ref  :D ) whilst quafing multiple units of alcohol, so riding home from Leicester after that would be a no-no.
Plus wearing red in a sea of white might not be the best thing to do

An invasion of Foccers to my territory is something  not to be missed (despite the rugby) so count me in. I know the route well and it's a good one with some nervy bends to catch out the unsuspecting and a wicked hairpin outside Uppingham .

I'll be on my VFR (hope that's not a lynching offence still) as a cager took away my Gen 1.

Look forward to meeting you all tomorrow.  :lol

Despite my initial uncertainty with this, I'm in :)

I'll be aiming to meet the Lofo's at their stop in Lutterworth (J20 M1 right?) for around 11.00 - the same time they are aiming to arrive

I don't think anyone else from the South West is heading up, but if you are, I'm happy to join a convoy ^^ Not entirely sure which route I'm going to take yet :\

11.30 i think,,turn off at j20 ,travel lodge just off the roundabout with the plane ornament in the middle.A4303

Deadeye , which way you going up, i could come across and intersect your route

I have a suggestion for when we get to the A47 as we will be crossing a nasty duel  carriageway, there is a refuge in the middle so you don't have to do both sides in one go.
The arrow points across to where we will be going.
Once over there is a bend and then a lay-by bit, I suggest that we all wait up there until we are all over the duel carriage way so no one needs to be in a rush to get over.

Whereabouts in Germany are you headed apage? Doing what?

SWMBO is a Fraulein, so I'm taking the plunge and moving in with her. Whole new world of challenges and decisions to make over whether to modify and register the current bike over there, or sell up and get a German one... Just don't know!

In any case, I'm in. See you tomorrow Foccers!

Also, I'll be rocking the old Helmet Camera, so hoping for some good Foccer Footage for Youtube!

Anybody want faces/reg plates/shit riding pixelated, just let me know!!

Hi all.  I've been looking forward to this for weeks like a fly on roadkill.  But yesterday and today has proven that I am infected with germs of the worst kind from my virulent 4yr old.

I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy never mind any Foccers so I'm going to bow out :-(.

Have fun peeps, the roads and route is awesome and goes right past my house :-(

I'll be thinking of ya all.  If anyone wants to risk it and pop by for a cuppa PM me and we'll arrange something.

Take care and keep it shiny side up.

Excellent vid Andy - you are clearly quite nuts!  :lol

Would love to see you do a tour of a lifetime and film it - would make cracking viewing I reckon.

Thanks for sharing - now I'm running late for everything I've got to do today  :rolleyes

If Radio 4 want to pay me to chat inane nonsense, I'd gladly do it SlimWilly!

Thanks Nick, i think...  :lol

I'm planning to record my trip from Hamburg to Spain and back, via Italy, Austria and maybe lunch in Paris (somehow). I'm expecting a lot of editing for that one!

Sorry about the lateness. But glad you couldn't stop watching, looks good for me!
