Title: Breaking 98 Fazer - Worth doing?
Post by: ElkWorks on 11 February 2014, 02:03:02 pm
Got a 98 fazer that I spilled on last year, stillruns fine and passed an mot

top fairing is cracked, and genny case is cracked, plugged back tire is only 500 miles old pilot power 2ct, so loads of life left.

How much could I get reasonably for it as broken up?

engine has done 14k and oil changed every 3k, new carb rubbers etc runs like a dream

Difficult to say as depends how generous your pricing is and how fast you want the bits to go for.

I've watched people break bikes on here & it looks like hard work, messages, fiddling about, wrapping, post office etc etc.

What value do you put on your own time & is that worth what you'll get.....only you know that much.

But there's plenty folk will take the bike off your hands as is for a project & that at least means another fazer is
saved.

I mean at a guess you could anywhere up to £800 as is surely, maybe a little more although it isnt uncommon to see non damaged bikes for a grand.

But lets say for example you flog as is for £500 quick sale.

But breaking you make £800

Again is the hours and hours and hours of work worth that extra £300?????

Get a few pics up. I wouldn't break it just because of a damaged fairing. It sounds like a good bike from your description.

Just sell it complete. Id pay £500 for it. breaking aint worth the time effort and constant trips to the post office

In my country fixing broken fairings (unless totally smashed) would be rather cheap.

If it's in good condition, couldn't you just fix it and ride it?

There's nothing you've described above that sounds remotely terminal.
It's true that there's money in *some* parts, but not all - so you'll end up tripping over a cannibalised corpse for months / years.

Sell it as complete, should still get reasonable £££ for it, particularly with a paltry 14000 miles up on it!!!

sounds like you guys have made my mind up for me.

it is rideable, I rode it to work on Monday (70 mile round trip).

I may try fixing the fairings as I still have the bits that broke off....

As long as it runs well, you should be able to get £800 for it - may take a bit though. To expedite matters, you'd probably be looking at £650~
