are these easy things to do?
-
Oh no! Not you too?
The genny cover should be bolts on, bolts off - the fairing can be fiddly, but not too bad really!
-
front fairing might mean you need to take the clocks off to get at the screw situated behind them - unless you have a VERY short screwdriver.
Simple thing to do (5 screws iirc)
usual rule of thumb - if I can do it then its a piece of piss.

The front fairing is pretty straight forward as stated above. The generator cover is also straight forward in theory although I took mine off a few months back to get it powdercoated and once I had undone all the bolts there was still a lot of resistance caused by the magnetic pull from the generator. At first I thought I had left a bolt in. As long as you bear this in mind and keep pulling at it like something demented it will eventually come off. Its easier to prise it off a little bit and then slip something inside the gap you will have created but if using this method be careful not the distort the casing edge if aesthetics are important to you. There are also 2 locator pegs situated in 2 of the bolts holes which you need to make sure you don't lose.
Good luck with it.

Where abouts did you find a replacement generator cover? Mines been plugged up with araldite after a spill last year!

it's a 2002 foxeye but will any year fit? I'm over in Selby N.Yorks. That would be great if you did have one!
-
I'll check what is in the box of bits and send you a picture

My cover has a hole and a crack in it. Mind you wouldn't take a lot to do that on somthing this thin

I've replaced alternator and pick-up coil yesterday, so according to your question. It's 5 screws (cover), and some fun with alternator and pick-up coil unscrewing and replacing. Mine alternator screws were covered with some sort of glue and I think I've only managed to unscrew it, because I've really good set of tools.

Na I bought it off a work colleague. Although I might keep it now I have fixed it and use it for my commute. My other one is Mint and this one has a whack in the tank. Suit me for leaving in the street. Don't have to worry about it then!!
