Title: Clonking noise on drive
Post by: bwizz on 19 January 2014, 06:57:39 pm
Just took my thou out for the first time this year. No exup hick ups despite the 4 month lay up. but I noticed a stange clonking sound at low speed ,Seems around the chain front sprocket area , got me home alright but not investigated yet. anybody had this issue with a thou, The noise did not relate to wheel speed so I don't think its a bearing.

does the chain need adjusting....i find with mind when the chain gets a little bit loose it hits the underside of the swing arm at the sprocket end .

After a 4 month layup could it be a stiff link in the chain?

There was no noises for the first 20 miles or so, maybe broken chain links though

After 13k miles mine developed a similar sound as you state, even just pushing the bike in neutral not even started, turned out the sprocket nut was just finger tight from new.  It never undid itself due to the lock washer & after removal the teeth had worn more than the 13k it had covered.

You may want to check it if not already done so.

First timeout "since the weird noise" on the thou today .In the interim I've checked for anything obvious . Now thinking the noise is the exup valve, no error code though! must be noisier though as my partner can hear from the pillion.
