Title: Camchain
Post by: mick on 15 January 2014, 06:22:40 pm
When starting from cold I get a ticking sound which goes away when warm . I had been thinking that this was a slight blow from an exhaust joint, but after reading an article on here was wondering if it could be camchain noise. Is there a problem with the tensioner? and as it goes away when warmed up does it need attention or do they all do it to some degree. any advice gratefuuly received, Thanks!

Welcome

If the noise is slight and it goes away once warmed up don't worry about it, some Fazer tensioners stick between teeth, as they can on all bikes with auto tensioners often all you need do is give the bike a good dose of revs in the lower gears for a day every now and then.  :thumbup

Seems normal to me too. How many miles are on the bike?

It's done 21,000 miles, don't use it enough, but this year I will try harder.

I get this noise, only noticeable below 3000revs, takes 5 minutes of riding for it to go away.  So I've ignored it

mines done it from the day I brought it 4 years, 10k miles ago. I have taken it all apart and got it to run quiet but after a few hundreds miles it came back. I wouldn't worry to much about it unless it starts making a noise when hot. oblivious just be mechanically sympathetic with it until the engine is warm.
