Title: Number plates
Post by: dcurzon on 15 January 2014, 05:08:14 pm
As a little sideline, i used to make numberplates. Legal or show plates.  Then i had a child and found i didnt have as much time to do it, so i let it slip.
But i still have all the equipment and the blank plates, and a little more time on my hands (not much), so i'm considering starting it up again.
I just need to guauge the level of interest, as i would need to lay down a reasonable amount of ££'s for software licensing.  Fortunately i dont need to pay out on blanks as i have a box ready.
So, would anyone be interested in a lovely shiny plate?  lets say around a tenner for a motorcycle plate as a ball park figure.  Maybe I could do a 'FOC-U plate' with FOC-U.co.uk in the tag line and the yamaha logo ghosted in the background if thats what people want?

Title: Re: Number plates
Post by: dcurzon on 15 January 2014, 08:00:07 pm

I have blanks for car, motorcycle legal size, 8x6, 7x5, 6x4, 9x3(single line style)

Post by: dcurzon on 15 January 2014, 09:41:10 pm
This is good feedback, I would need 15 to break even on software cost.  I can do them without the plate software, but the right software literally saves hours!  I'd also include the plastic nuts/bolts.

My 7x5 that I knocked up... Bit dirty from commuting.

Depending on cost, I could be interested in 3 different plates!!  :lol :lol

I'll have one. As a point of interest can you do them with national flags, say Flag of St George with England underneath?

The penalty for supplying non-standard plates (https://www.gov.uk/register-as-number-plate-supplier) looks quite harsh. :eek

Title: Re: Number plates
Post by: dcurzon on 16 January 2014, 10:34:12 am
They are!  I'm a registered number plate supplier, so can do legal plates.  Anything other than legal are for show purposes only - concourse, shop window, and most definitely NOT for the road
Title: Re: Number plates

I'd probably the the GB sticker on the side for European jaunts?

Is England not legal???
Title: Re: Number plates
Post by: dcurzon on 17 January 2014, 08:36:38 pm
Fizzy - simply not do-able. Maybe you could fashion some dzus fasteners for quick number plate swaps?

GB is legal (assuming its on a legal plate of course), don't think it is but I'd have to check if England would be legal as an alternative.

Title: Re: Number plates

Probably a tenner.  If anyone want a normal plain legal plate, I can do them now.

Just going to give you an update as to where i am with this (and show that i havent forgotton)...
I've been fighting to get the software to work on my Windows7 machine  (i have it on an old XP machine, but that machine is old and very slow), eventually, i had to get the software working on win7 using an XP virtual machine!  So i called up to license the software, mentioned in passing that it was a struggle on win7, and they told me there was a newer version that was win7 compatible...  So i'd much rather use that than rely on a VM.
CD should be arriving today or tomorrow, once installed (my machine doesnt have a cd drive so i'll have to copy it to usb then install), i can call them up to get the license, and we're good to go.  I've paid the £££'s for the license.
Full size plates, had a stock check and i need to order some of those.  I'll get them with the GB pre-printed on the plate if i can as they seem to finish better.
:)

Can you post here mate what you can do then?

some samples?

with the standard font can you do 3D text, carbon style text?

can you do the honey comb?

how would the ghosted yam badge look?

could you design it on the software then send as an image first?

thanks

Hey fizzy... yes to all that.  Page 1 you can see my plate with the ghosted Yamaha.  Also 'inline' font, which looks quite nice - its a vehicle font (and legal for car) with a line in the centre of the font.

But instead of the transformers logo, would you be able to do the Kawasaki logo, the big "K"?

Yeah should be able to do something like that, I'll need some design time.

Putting in an order for blank plates hopefully today, but just dealing with a rear puncture :-/

Mine has just arrived, for £10 I dont know how hes making money on it.

I'm really happy with it, thanks mate

No overheads and I'm not greedy.  I just need to make back the cost of the software and the actual plates themselves and the p+p.  If I can stick a small bit of change into my pocket afterwards then that's great :)

You have to display GB ,but you can have the cross as well
Title: Re: Number plates

https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates/flags-symbols-and-identifiers (https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates/flags-symbols-and-identifiers)

You can have the flag, but if you're planning on travelling in Europe, then GB and the EU logo need to be there.
It should be in this order:
EU logo
Flag
GB

Quite frankly nobody will give a monkeys if the flag and the GB are other way around

And for those who moan I never upload pics....  :lol :lol :lol :lol

Edited just for safety's sake - but the plate looks great (and hasn't got two boxes on it!!)

Guys, PM me.  I dont get to hang around the forums, but i receive email notification of PM's.
Aluminium plates - car only.  As mentioned a few posts up, car plates kill me on postage!
Bike plates - single sided only. They're a tenner each including postage, or you can pick them up from me in person (London SW1Y), still a tenner though! No additional costs.
