Title: Ordered a rear caliper fzs 1000
Post by: hadyoursister on 06 January 2014, 11:52:01 pm
Hi I just ordered a rear caliper off a Fazer 1000 and am wondering if anyone here knows which brake pads to go for as I have seen several shapes when looking.
This is the one I have ordered if that helps and they have one left if anyone else is looking to upgrade.

Thanks

Thank for replying so quick but From the picture it looks like it's a two bar setup to hold the pads whereas mine (1998) is only a single bar to hold them in place.

ah. mines has two pins, but its a foxeye, so maybe they changed the rear caliper design?

this is the right sort of pads for mine (ive never used these, just googled for an example):

I have Ferodo platinum pads all round, and have no problems with those though :)

Just double checked the pictures and what threw me was the double split pins whereas mine are only one set in the centre.  So should i in theory be able to slot my current pads straight into the new caliper? Thanks again

they may physically fit, yes. but there will be no place to put the bolt through to hold them in. yours will be this style:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-FZS-600-fazer-1998-2003-organic-Armstrong-GG-front-brake-pads-/251208213174 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-FZS-600-fazer-1998-2003-organic-Armstrong-GG-front-brake-pads-/251208213174)

which only has room for one pin. it appears they did indeed change the design when the change to foxeye was made.

What have you ordered?
You're on about the rear caliper but have been shown an ad for FRONT brake pads!

Rear brake pads have 2 holes, and if you compare the 600 to the 1000 one's they look like they are a different shape!

Hadyoursister, If I've read this right, you're going to swap your oem rear caliper for the blue-spot one from the early Fazer 1000. If that's the case your old pads will not fit in the blue-spot. You'll need to buy Fazer 1000 pads, the brand is up to you.
