Title: My 1999 Fazer
Post by: MarkWales on 05 January 2014, 09:09:57 pm
Thought I would do a readers ride type thread for my FZS600

Owned the bike since 2007 not a big rider - seems all the Fazers I looked at had the same low milage as if people seem to by them to look at lol - although this may be to change soon.

This is the bike in 2007

 :lol

Nice bike, BTW.

Nice bike! Tell me more about the trimmed plate please?

Here's mine (http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,10213.0.html) that I bought in September 2013. Not done much to it other than 2 light mod, new rear tyre, and oil filter change.

Best model in the best colour fella  :lol

Can't say I'm keen on the blue rail, reckon silver would be much better but that's just my 2p.

Did you polish the rear wheel or just clean the bugger?
Title: Re: My 1999 Fazer
Post by: MarkWales on 07 January 2014, 09:15:36 pm

Thanks for the comments

trimmed the plate down on band saw in work standard plate just removed all the wasted space leaving only a 5mm border

Rear wheel has had the paint removed to the lip and then polished through various grades of wet and dry and then metal polish to a mirror finish.

Looks really good with the rear wheel polished fella.

Mind me asking what screen you've got fitted and if it improves on the standard or a double bubble?
Title: Re: My 1999 Fazer
Post by: MarkWales on 08 January 2014, 08:11:56 pm
The screen is the standard one - looking back at the pics it looks like the double bubble but is genuine.

That is a lovely example; same model as mine - although not such a nice colour  :lol

I wish mine was as in good nick as yours,  Filthy doesn't even begin to describe it :rolleyes

Just out of interest, why remove the 'Fazer' lettering?
Title: Re: My 1999 Fazer
Post by: MarkWales on 08 January 2014, 10:00:38 pm
To be honest there was a mark on the one side and I think it looks cleaner and a little less dated without.

The 1000 mirrors, do they reach a little further? I find I have to move my arms to see in my mirrors and it's starting to pee me off.

Bikes looking nice, I like the half black tank, not so keen on the fairing. Have you vinyl wrapped it or something?
Title: Re: My 1999 Fazer
Post by: MarkWales on 10 March 2014, 06:56:41 pm
Thanks

Yes the mirrors do reach a little further.

I think is enough not sure if the fairing will look better with the  :faz  logo - at the moment I have used some black insulation tape to judge the look and have now ordered some Black vinyl to wrap the tank.

like this maybe

So I have had a bit of a miss fire on the bike and when I drained the carburetor  bowls found I had a large amount of water and rust bubbles. When I checked the clear fuel filter I have installed I could see the orange going through the filter (not good)decided to book the bike in to have the carburetors cleaned and balanced - beyond my current ability.

In preparation for this I today drained and removed the tank then flushed the tank with detergent and plenty of water once fully dried out replaced the fuel.

There was about a litre of really contaminated crap I removed from the tank  :eek

When flushing out the tank I saw what looked to be more like flakes of fish food than rust.

Fuel going through the filter now flows clear as hoped. need to use the thing more to prevent this happening again!

Dropped the bike off this morning to have a few jobs done:

Carbs off and cleaned
Clean carbs Balanced
replace all filters and oil service

And MOT

Lazy on the filters but he offered a really good deal and the bike will all be sorted.

Sounds simple enough, i'll give that a try

Mine are 110/70/R17 so a wee bit slimmer.

Will need to wait a few days though...overtime, mothers day & general stuff has got in the way this time.
Title: Re: My 1999 Fazer
Post by: ChristoT on 31 March 2014, 12:26:11 am
110/70 is the correct size. But many do fit 120s as they're more common, and cheaper. General consensus is that it does not have a good effect on handling, and that 110s are better for the bike.

K and N filter and torque arm to go

Title: Re: My 1999 Fazer
Post by: MarkWales on 13 July 2014, 09:15:09 pm
So I set about the K and N this morning - My brother was visiting so he got roped  into helping and was supporting the tank (full of fuel) as I got the filter in and tightened down the cover he turns and says "My hand is wet and smells like petrol - look its pouring out the side"

so quickly removed the tank and placed on its side to find this

It is dings on the upper half so not where the fuel and water rots through...just a shame......lets say for arguments sake that a part of the tank inner liner has come off under the bashes and into the fuel....well ive had no issues since the crash and when i emptied the fuel it came out clean and straight i to the thou and the petrol lawnmower.

I cant guarantee it but i can say that it is probably 95% better than the one you have....almost disposable for £25 and could run for years and years while you find a mint one......mind it is an 00, 01 tank though so best check if theres any fitment differences....if it fits then it is instant more capacity than yours.

Looking good!

I'm amazed at the colour change in that downpipe, wouldn't expect it to go from yellow to silver - maybe you polished the coating off? :p

They just have different length filler tubes. You can actually get the same volume of fuel in all of them but takes a bit longer to get in with the "smaller" tanks that have the longer filler tubes.

Seat comes from a guy called Dave Digger who did a cracking job on one for my Tiger, still trying to get round to asking him to do one for my Fazer. If you buy a seat of Ebay and get it sent to him then it should be around £150 ish all in posted back. He sometimes has seats in stock so would just be a case of sending him yours. Link below
