Post by: richfzs on 19 December 2013, 03:20:51 pm
In administration again, including the German side of the company. Looks like that's the end of them...

Shops and website still open in Holland though!

HEIN Gericke are back in administration for the second time in 17 months.
After being saved by the German Hein Gericke Group last year, store numbers decreased from 49 to 16. Those 16 have now decreased to three where only the Glasgow, Stockwell and Farnborough branches are open for business.
Staff at the clothing and accessory retailer were told to go home by administrators and informed that they were no longer employed by the company.
The 13 remaining shops have been shut down and the company's website homepage is currently showing: ‘offline for maintenance’.
Customers who have purchased vouchers with a credit card are advised to contact their credit card company for a refund as even the remaining stores open for business will not be accepting vouchers.
Currently 85 shops across Europe have closed resulting in 164 employees losing their jobs.
A staff member spoke out saying: “all of us have lost our jobs and that’s the end.
“I am obviously upset but many of us are concerned because we have been selling vouchers in the lead up to Christmas but it doesn’t look like anyone is going to be able to get them honoured now.”
Parent company Hein Gericke GmbH have said they are working hard to find new finance and investors.

There goes my £30 voucher! :(
Beyond that though, very sad to hear - that's where I get the majority of my bike gear, and they are a great little shop!

Have to say they looked dodgy with voucher sales and massive discounts...

on plus side, the existing stock will have to be sold off......

but its a sad loss as we all need good accessory shops...

Its a good point that most of us have bought gear from there.  They seem pretty well regarded (not perfect - but well regarded).  So how come they can't make a viable business out of it?

too many cheap asian alternatives and when you think the majority of business is kids with scooters or first getting into bikes then gerrick is too expensive, all the gravel rashed hard nosed beer swilling experienced peeps already got there expensive gear that lasts and only renew occasionally

Ive always thought it was ok, staff seem pretty friendly and helpful. Mind, the ducati shop two door down has very nearly been my downfall once or twice :lol

It appears that J & S Accessories are taking over a number of ex Hein Gericke shops. Oxford products are expecting a large order from J & S imminently. Don't know if Hein Gericke staff will be kept on at these outlets, and don't know which particular outlets, or how many. Order expected to go out 2nd/3rd Jan.

A Spanish investor has bought the German side of the business and and it's subsidiaries - except the UK.

I guess that means we're screwed.   :o

I've got a chunk of gift vouchers (3 figure sum) and they have my trousers in for warranty repair.  I'm hopeful on the latter part, as I was dealing with the Stockwell store which is (was?) still open. I need to check and make sure they're still there.

J & S Accessories have bought 12 out of 16 HG stores, to be re-launched later this month:

Aberdeen, Braintree, Farnborough, Gants Hill, Glasgow, Hangar Lane, Leeds, Leicester, Maidstone, Oxford, Preston, Stockwell.

They plan to honour HG vouchers to a value of 50% with a minimum spend of £250. They are trying to keep on previous HG staff where possible.

Good news for Oxford Products and the industry in general - a significant part of our business came from HG.

Nick, are they keeping the HG brand, or relaunching (as j&s?), do you know?

That'll be interesting as they are on opposite sides of the same road!

As far as I know, Hein Gericke no longer exist as a UK brand. The shops will now be J & S.
