Title: Imports restricted?
Post by: nickodemon on 04 December 2011, 10:08:52 pm
Hi Thinking about buying a fazer gen 1 import, unfortunately i don't know what country it has come from apart from the fact it has kph clocks with a speedo converter and the headlights point in the wrong direction. Is there any way to find out what country its from and history? The other thing is it's an '03 with the later galaxy blue / silver engine from the '04. Any help would be great. :rolleyes  The other REALLY important thing is if it is restricted in any country.

i believe only the french models are restricted, which is 100bhp,it probably is possible and yamaha should be able to tell you from the vin no.

And French restricted ones are dead easy to de-restrict. :)

Just take off the carb tops and pull out the plastic mushroom which prevents the throttle slides from opening more than half way. ;)

Cheers for the helpful info. Should get it later in the week. Needs swing arm bearings and front tyre, haven't noticed anything else yet!

You could check the exup cover bolts, see if they come out easily, that should give you an idea of whether the valve's been serviced regularly.

Picked up bike tonight :)  Rode home in hail, then sleet, then rain. Bl**dy baltic :eek  Bike drove home fine except for left handers because of the swing arm bearings. Later in week will look into sorting the swing arm bearings. Ps... Has anyone got a Uk headlight? The bike was imported from germany, so it has kph clocks with speedo converter and headlights, which point in the wrong direction! They have been corrected for mot purposes with tape. Would like Uk headlight. Not bothered about clocks. Will post a pic when i get round to it.  :)  I think i'll rename my garage (Fazer garage) Got three of them at the moment :lol

Might be able to help on the headlight, Nick.  Mate has recently brought a UK-spec Gen 1 over to Spain.  Will need to swap headlights at some point ... I'll ask if he's interested in doing a deal.

He'll probably want to keep the clocks, though, as they accurately reflect the low mileage of his bike.

Definetly interested in a swap. The headlight is in excellent condition with no scratches :lol
