Title: Engine Replacement
Post by: humbucker88 on 01 November 2013, 10:11:26 pm
Evening guys, just wondering if anyone can tell me if I'd need any special tools to swap out my engine? Will I need something to lift the engine or can I get a friend to help me lift it in and out?

A bottle jack to take the weight of the engine when you remove the engine mounts, thats about it if memory serves me rightly. why are you chaging your engine mate?

A burly friend could be helpful, but quite doable on your own ,see:

Different bike, same principles & about same weight engine i'd say.
I've done one of these but not the fazer, & i'm a weedy 11.5 stone  ;)
I'd wrap frame tubes with cardboard or something before removing/replacing engine to save the paintwork~ not much room for manoeuvre.

I replaced the whole engine in my fazer a couple of winters ago on my own in a large shed with nothing but a bag of mixed halfords tools, some timber (for persuasion and protection) and a basic trolley jack. Its relatively easy, just fiddly and time-consuming. Hardest bit is lining up the bolts when re-fitting the engine in the frame, a friend would be useful then!
