Title: Refitting exhaust .
Post by: esetest on 31 October 2013, 06:27:37 pm
When I removed the link pipe from the exup collector box , there was the remains of some kind of gasket or sealant , does this  have to be removed & replaced before refitting and if so what  is the product called . Thanks in  advance for advice given .

If its the same as the 600 on a stock exhaust then there is a sort of gauze gasket and should probably be replaced if keeping the stock exhaust. Most aftermarket cans have a much snugger fit making it impossible to put any sort of true gasket in place - in this instance maybe someone used a thin layer of some sort of exhaust paste?

Yes, the standard exhaust and can use a fibre collar/gasket. They tend to fall apart a bit over time.

Cheers guys , I am hoping to replace the standard can with a new slip on stubby in the new year ( money permitting ) but for now I will have to put up with the standard can , I will have a look in moto man to see if they have some kind of sealant for exhausts .

I bought some exhaust sealant today , I have refitted the exhaust today & and pushed it back on without the sealant , if there is a problem I will take it back off and use the sealant . Also, anyone know what the correct torque is for the header nuts .
