What do you get up to other than your Fazer?
I have been building Quadcopters and taking cameras up for aerial video for 2 - 3 years on and off. Would love to video a motobike riding along a cool cliff top road.

I have a multiplex funjet ultra aswell. Top spec esc/ motor and unbuilt. Flyin with dx8. All goin up for sale soon. Great hobby. Made loads of friends after i join BMFA (which u should do for the public liability insurance). Quite expensive hobby and would rather put the money into R1 front end and R6 back. I do have a little quad. Great fun :-))(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/10/28/y5uzu4y7.jpg)

I'm pretty into my music, films, hifi and home cinema stuff. Used to be at gigs every week, but kids put paid to that, so redirected my interests to hifi/cinema gear in the house.
Also do a lot of website programming (mostly PHP/MySQL and Wordpress). I married the two hobbies together a couple of years back and knocked out a little search engine to help find second hifi gear going cheap (www.HiFiHunter.com (http://www.hifihunter.com)). Does alright, earns me some beer money. :)

Right now it's just the biking, but I used to be into classic VWs and Triumph cars in a big way, in the last 20 years I owned about 50 of the money draining little bastards! :lol
-
Other hobbies I seem to be lacking in.
Got a yammie enduro bike but got bored as there's only a few places to ride now. Been thinking of getting a half decent MTB bike and riding around the local countryside as pushbikes can go just about anywhere.
Had a look online and got well confused with the choice available. :eek

I do like a bit of model making. Sometimes from scratch or modifying kits. I was also a bit of a petrol head racing mini motos, go karts, grass track side cars, and national sprint racing. My current project is a 1:99th scale model of HMS Victory, but this is really a long time project. I also want to return to my love of painting and illustration.

Cosmic, i can see you are a talented man,,did you create all those images?
:lol Yes. I used to sell them at motorsport events like Autosport International, Brooklands Museum and at a few local shows. I also do wildlife art... mostly birds of prey. It's a passion that I've not had a lot of time to dedicate too in the last decade. I need to get back into it for my own sanity.
Cheers Locksmith.

Blimey Kosmic, you might just inspire me to get my H.M. Bark Endeavour model out and start building that, after 15 odd years.

:lol Don't do it in one hit, its taken 15 years not to get it out of the box. Got some winter maintenance on the bike first, but now i have a garage and work space over the next year it might see the light of day.
New baby coming in December so might need jobs in man cave to keep me sane. ;)
Lovely pics as well.

A pencil sketch and a first effort with acrylics:

Yes, other than the Fazer. I am into making replica side covers for various makes and models of classic bikes that I sell all over the world. Just finished a Honda CB900 Custom mould and layed up my first replica this afternoon. Waiting on the fibre glass to set and see what the mould produces. Just a few of the models I make for. I also replicate the side cover emblems and other parts too.
Also like to do a bit of machining etc, My next purchase looks like it will be a Milling machine to go with the lathe and tig welder.

Like a couple on here, my hobby turned into a business.
At 44 years of age and at the end of a fairly long relationship, in 2001, i put in for a grant and set up an Audio/Visual production studio.
Then in 2004, i incorporated a music publishing company and two independent record labels, releasing just over 30 albums.
In 2008, i put the labels on hold and concentrated more on corporate work, which was much less stressful than dealing with the prima donna's in the music industry.
A lot of my work now, involves transferring vinyl to cd and vhs to dvd, plus i've been supplying weekly podcasts to a company in Switzerland for the last five years.

I'm sure I'll pick up more hobbies as life progresses but primarily its mechanics (both car and bike) and then gaming... yeah yeah yeah, I know... PC is my weapon of choice - I own consoles but use them so rarely I often forget they exist :P
-
Bloody hell, you lot make my hobbies seem so boring, and wot a lot of talented foccers you are.
Apart from my fazer I do a bit of fly fishing, tie flies, just joined a shooting club, .22 and .38s until I get through the full bore course. I have just bought a DSLR, wish I could take photies like KK or Tori, can't use the thing yet. :lol

Getting back into me fire gubbins again after a wee break.
Juggling, Diablo, Poi and a wee bit eating & breathing, more fun now it's darker earlier and I can scare the neighbours with the jets of flame over the wall.

between working 40+hours a week, and going to Uni, hobbies are more or less a thing of the past for me :(
Used to enjoy a wee bit of guitar, and own an xbox which never sees the light of day these days either. And for someone who only "dabbles" in guitar, I seem to have ammased far too many. I have 5 or 6 now. including these two, which I use the most (excuse the fingerprints :o):

really need to get round to selling the Ibanez. it rarely comes out to play these days either...shame really.
-
Heh, that's 3 of us playing Takamines Mick - you, me and Exup. Although Exup reckons mine is orrible to play :lol Doesn't help that the strings are like rusty barbed wire..... :rolleyes
-
yeah exup showed me his the other night (ooooh errrrrr), come on then. get the pics oot!
i hate when the strings start to go like that. you can stop that happening for a while by wiping the strings down when your finished playing. stops the sweat building up so much and rusting them ;)
-
Yeah, I usually use that Fastfret stuff. It's just that when Exup tried it, I hadn't played it in some months. Got some new strings knocking around in a drawer somewhere. Well, mine isn't a really expensive one, a mate of mine had one and when I sold my Guild (was good for blues, but not very "bright" for other stuff) I liked how his sounded.
-
very nice :)
Liking the natural wood look.

Big fat sound. Brilliant pre-amp. A grand well spent. Imported it from USA coz u can only get this one in Matt and without the bling or the Finnish in the uk. I fink the mother of pearl looks wicked and soon as I saw it i wired the cash and bought a hard case aswell so it wouldn't get focced up by some low paid spotty baggage handler nob. I also have a hofner which i use for slide.
-
ha! I bought mines in Canada on holiday as well (cheaper, plus as you say, hard to get one over here with the MOP inlay, although I only got 1 inlay), and took it back home as normal luggage :lol

My hobbies? Sailing in Turkey, motorcycles, fettling motorcycles, talking about motorcycles etc... :D
I love aircraft too - especially WWII and cold war jets.
-
I think the Phantom will always be my favourite fast jet of that era Christo. When I was about 13, I went for a week to RAF Coningsby with the Air Cadets. As well as getting to crawl around the BBMF Lancaster, a couple of us spent an evening standing by the airfield perimeter watching the Phantoms take off - jeez, but those things were loud on full afterburner, they made the ground shake like no other aircraft I've ever seen! We also did an aircraft wash on a Phantom, and got to help the groundcrews on them in a hangar - I remember them being huge great things, and you wondered how such a massive construction could go so fast. I think they are like the big muscle cars of the aircraft world. Never got to work on fast jets while I was in the RAF though.
-
I regularly stand on platforms watching trains.
-
actually i like a bit of mtb. lovely tracks down south and west wales. got an old giant rincon and a new-ish mongoose tyax.

Not sure really mate, I would take £400 for it. I paid almost £700 (and due to a mistake in the shop, ended up with a team J craft case and certificate from another guitar (mines is not a custom J craft model - just a prestige one which didnt come with a cert.)
The case alone is worth over £100 as you cant buy em on their own ;)

The case alone is worth over £100 as you cant buy em on their own ;)
got any other pics you can send me ? ..other info like the serial number etc ...mucho grassy arse :D

Nick i gotta say that picture is absolutely FANTASTIC. U may be a shit rider but ur a foccin awesome artist :-)
Totally agree Nick. Love this pic and have stolen it for my Avatar on the Tiger forum.......didn't see a little "c" in a circle anywhere :D
If you TOTALLY agree with Exup, including the bit about being a shit rider, then no, you can't use it! :lol
Otherwise, feel free. I'm not likely to ever be trying to make a living from art, and frankly I'm flattered (or bemused by your poor judgement - not sure which yet! :lol ).

That... sport... I understand some Americans going for it - they're weird all right, but across the sea... without being forced to play it... can't uderstand. There's football, theres rugby if you like it rough, there's basketball, but noooo - "AMERICAN football". That and baseball are two sports I will never understand - or like. It's played with a ball, but there are players who never touch the ball for the entire match. Figure that... :rolleyes

A pencil sketch and a first effort with acrylics:
nick
Love the sketch of the building :)
-
Thanks. A couple more then. First two I did in Polperro on my coast walk. Old buildings I find make good sketching subjects - I like to look for different textures, old brick, tiles, wood frames and peeling plaster etc - adds interest.
-
Nice.

yep i really like them nick - you're nowhere near me are you? oxford way. i've done a few of my home town, thame, but compared with yours they seem a bit mechanical, you seem to have caught something of the place.

Nick, now you're showing off again! Seriously though, awesome drawings!

Superb detail in that drawing. I tend to be a bit lazier and suggest detail. Also, I haven't actually done a lot "on location" but work from photos quite often. Laziness is another of my hobbies! :lol
I did once take a ride to Finchingfield in Essex when I lived nearer to there, and sat on the bike to do some sketching there - nice subjects in that village - that's probably the last time I actually sketched on the spot, maybe 5 years ago.
Do you have any particular inspirations? I have (or had - can't seem to find it at the moment) a brilliant book by David Cox, a 1900 reproduction of a volume originally produced in 1815, in which the artist has done some wonderful sketches of the kind of buildings typical of the countryside of the time - a very important historical record in my view, and hard to find such excellent subjects these days. There are a couple of very old barns and farm outbuildings near here that I first saw from the top deck of a bus before I had my current bike (you can't see them from nearer road level due to high hedges etc). I keep meaning to go and ask the owners if they mind if I spend a couple of hours sketching them, but haven't got around to that yet - maybe next summer.
-
that drawing I posted above is quite large so it looks detailed because it is reduced.

is this by David Cox?
I quite like Gordon Cullen

Beauty. What is it made of? The handle and the blade?
-
is the top part of the knife handle, as per photo, fashioned like a bird's head or is that my weird imagination?
-
The blade is made from 01 high carbon steel and the handle is spalted beech , the blacklines are caused by fungi .The handle is shaped to fit the hand .

Found some GoPro vid clips on my laptop, from various Quadcopter flights this year. Cobbled together a little vid.

I like to customise and race bikes up the strip . Do all paintwork and as much of the engineering as I can the engines are full race 1428cc zed with nitros 1075cc turbo Kat turbo they run in the 9's
-
I got into tuning and making bits for air rifles, more specificallytheoben rapids, a few years back. A good mate and engineer taught me how to use my lathe and the science of air stripping, moderating and silencing to build very efficient shrouds and moderators. My own gun is this, a .20 rapid with a two stage carbon fibre shroud. The only part I didn't build is the block, all the internals are home built including the "rocket" valve. The lothar walther barrel is 21 1/2 inches long( turned down so it's super skinny for lightness) and ends only one inch from the start of the two stage shroud. Air is stripped from the pellet not once but twice, and all you hear is a dull phut , even when the pellets speed is in excess of 1000 feet per second. On the 110 ft range at hereward gun club just outside of Peterborough it will hit a five pence piece every time, mangling it in the process. It will shoot heavy (14.3grain) crosman prem pellets at speeds in excess of 1200 feet per second, but as the speed of sound is approx 1130 ft/sec, anything over that gets you a sonic boom( deafening believe it or not) then a pellet that flies supersonic. Supersonic is not a problem, but as it's speed decreases and it drops back into subsonic, the pellet flies all over the place giving you a shotgun scatter effect, useless for accuracy. As such I shoot at 900 ft/ sec, a good balance between power and air useage( the buddy bottle is filled to 220 bar, I think that's about 4000 psi!)
Strangely, as much as I love shooting, I hate killing anything, as such I don't hunt with it, it's just long range sniping small targets that floats my boat :-)
-
.....And this winter I've kinda started looking at getting older bikes and doing them up to sell. I'm really wanting a zephyr 750 or 1100 I can turn into something like this/or an affordable z1 rep, but they are getting harder to find at a reasonable price. I missed a 1100 the other day at a bike shop in Ramsey, cambs..it was only £1200 and not only was it in good original condition with low miles, but it was US imported, so had the yank spec spoked wheels. Would only have taken a clean and paint job to have made nice z1 rep bike with decent rubber and brakes to boot, compared to the seventies bike it would be copying.
