Title: Strange wiring at the rear? Or is it normal?
Post by: dcurzon on 26 October 2013, 08:32:09 pm
Cobbling together my scottoiler today out of various bits from ebay (yes, its all working just fine), i noticed odd wiring towards the rear of the bike.  2 connectors seem to be shorted out, and a third connector left blank.  Attached a bad picture.

Its possible that this is normal and that section of sub loom is used on a variety of bikes?  But i still think it looks 'not right'.

But, everything does seem to be working ok back there, so maybe i should just pretend i didn't see it?

I think mine is the same I assumed which is often dangerous I know but anyway I assumed it might be something to do with an alarm or immobiliser that I don't have.

i came up with the same assumption, but seeing as i'm finding all manner of oddities on this bike*, thought i'd ask those in the know :)

*the previous owner (and only owner) told me about the one headlamp for dip, one for beam, no modifications done to the bike.  I got home and wired up the right headlamp and found there was some wiring already running to it, from the battery +, with a blown fuse... anyhow, disconnected that lot and went with my own version instead.  Also, the thinner sprocket nut is fitted, so have now got the thicker one ready to fit when i do the chain

What you see is normal and part of the loom for the Yamaha alarm and most after market alarms can or are tied into the loom at these points. The two with the loop plugs are to disable the starting and running of the engine. The three way connector supplies the switched ignition power to let the alarm system know the ignition is switched on and indicator control by the alarm system.
