Title: Halvarssons gear - rate or slate?
Post by: fazed600 on 29 November 2011, 07:33:05 pm
I'm thinking about getting some new textile kit for winter. Read in Ride magazine that Halvarssons Spartacus jacket and Zen trousers came out top in a recent test. Saw the kit at the NEC last week and was impressed.
Before splashing out £550 on this 'budget' set does anyone have any long term experience with Halvarssons kit?

I love the gloves I have :thumbup

Really well made, comfy, great feel through to the bars, and haven't leaked yet

My textile jacket and trousers come from Wolf Racing (see eg here (http://www.harpersraceshop.co.uk/cat93_1.htm))

Three hundred quid including the Knox back protector and with the inner linings I'm still warm even when doing motorway riding in temperatures of only one or two degrees (and it's entirely waterproof too!)

My textile jacket and trousers come from Wolf Racing (see eg here (http://www.harpersraceshop.co.uk/cat93_1.htm))

I tried on some of their jackets at the bike show....pretty good kit if thought, couldn't find one to fit me though.

I bought a Richa jacket instead. I don't worry about waterproofing as i just put my waterproof on over the top.

I really like my Korax jacket (shorter style 3 season jacket). Survived a Biblical downpour in Germany this summer without problem.

I've got Wolf kangaroo 2 piece leathers with gloves to match and think they are ace, I've had them for a couple of years and got them soaked (not ideal!) but they seem to be holding up ok and the fit is great for me.

I tried a Wolf textile jacket on at the show and didn't get on with it as well as the Halvarssons - seemed really good for for the price though.

Probably replying too late, but I've had a Halvasson jacket now for a couple of years I think it's great value for money.

Warm enough although I only do 12 miles to work, it's also been waterproof but again it's only for 20 to 25 minutes.

One criticism I do have is the zip puller things break quite easily, having said that the dealer has replaced them each time without any arguments.

So for the price I paid, I think about £180, pretty good.

Cheers for the replies. Went to my 'local' Halvarssons dealer today and I've ordered the Spartacus jacket and Zen trousers.

They didn't have the right sizes in stock so I should be able to pick it all up next Saturday.

Also pleased that they do the trousers in 3 leg lengths, which is good as most standard fits are too short for me.

I've used leathers + waterproof oversuit suit for the last 19 years but this year have had a lot of days of showers and go fed up with oversuit on/of/on/off etc.  so splashed out on some Halvarssons gear in October, the Outlast range I think.  Ive only used them in rain once and no leaks, guess I should go out and test them in this shitty weather, but think I'll give it a miss.
They do seem very well made.
The thin thermal lining impressed me,  it was really warm and I was riding with just a t-shirt underneath until recently.
I went down to Magny Cours where it was unseasonably warm 27c. The vents didn't seem to do much, but would work if the waterproof liner was taken out. Although that wouldn't help with the hot showery days.

So far I rate them.

I've had them on for the last couple of days and I'm really pleased so far. The fit is great and especially the longer leg trousers, my jeans are 34" inside leg and I've always struggled finding long enough bike kit.

So far I've been through rain and hail and its kept me warm and dry.

2 year guarantee as well.
