Anyone seen it?
Whats the score, is it just the torch or is there any carnival type things preceeding it ?

More importantly is there any point in taking the time off work to see it?

Lots of Met and local police bikes followed by Met police cars....then the support vehicles and runner etc with three customised advertising vehicles...LLoyds, Samsung and Coca Cola.
Good buzz around when it gets to you but whether I'd take a day off work?

I agree with Dick plus as the torch is sooo surrounded by vehicles that you only get to see as it draws parallel with you.
But then again you're never going to see it again in this country.

Much as I thought, shan't bother with it.

The Tour de France came through our village and that was a top day. (mind you it was a Sunday and the pub opened at 10 to help us see it and I didn't leave until around 8pm :hic

I really enjoyed the experience when it came through Huntingdon at 8am on a Sunday morning even if. Was hanging out my arse at the time.......

I saw it in Winchester and it wasn't inspiring. My daughter was in a dance performance for it at Brockenhurst College and both her and her mum got to hold it and have a photo taken. I guess their experience was far better than mine...lol

Sorry I didn't realise the underground network was on the torch route, will the mole people be running it or the spelunkers?

Dazza, I agree with your sentiment about PM's, I have to deal with them daily in my job too.

Those that can do, those that cant become PM's

In this case, his nuts are on the line so to speak but it is contractors (companies not individuals) that are not delivering on time.

Dryrob I was referring to the Olympics in general.....You know,tennants being evicted because well off landlords can charge extortionate rents during the games, several places in London where you can drive 3 lanes into 2 straight into a choice of being fined for a bus lane or Olympic lane, trains running extra time reducing engineering hours leaving no time for maintenance and many thousands of people out of work, stratford and newham practicly becoming a no go area unless you apply for a permit, westfield carparks closed weeks ago affecting all the retail businesses, the joke of security guards employed can't even speak English, not to mention the billions of pounds poured into it all which ultimately we as tax payers are paying for. In a world recession where we are all being screwed this sort of extravagence seems a little crazy to me and as you can imagine am not feeling the Olympic spirit. Rant over and BBrown ....just because you don't , doesn't mean you can't

Ah, I'm undecided about the whole thing but that's probably down to it not really affecting me up north. Looks like the corporate sponsors will do well out of it tho...

It's coming near here tomorrow and was wondering how busy the torch is?
cause considering parking in the next town and getting the train (no chance of bike, family all going)

Just got back, saw it in Tonbridge which wasn't on the route, we got it during its lunch break or something... was good, shame to see everyone then rushing back to their cars instead of browsing the shops... all because of the charges to park $:\$

Was good though, Kelly Holmes doing her bit and they had someone who'd carried the torch in the 1948 Olympics with his torch too, much prefer the older design... It was still very busy considering it had been planned a week ago and wasn't advertised on the route website...

It came through the neighbouring town last Sunday morning just after 8 o'clock. No way I was going to drive; so Mrs Diesel, Daughter Diesel and I got up at 6.30, walked three miles in the pissing rain, joined the thousands already lining the route (that early on a Sunday I thought we'd be the only 3 people there...), stood in the pissing rain for another 45 minutes, Met Fuzz on bikes, support vehicles, Coca Cola bus, Samsung bus (the heat radiating from the bus size tv screen - wow!), Lloyds TSB bus, relay runners' bus.... then at last, here-comes-the-torch-there-goes-the-torch.

Walked three miles home in the pissing rain.

Glad I went? Nah - would rather have got my usual lie-in, tea in bed and read the papers.

Worthwhile? Yeah - I was truly amazed at the number of people who were mobilised to get up off their arse and go out and see it flash by.

I was offered an invitation to see the torch pass through Teddington Lock.
I was quite interested until I read the part where it said I had to be there by 0730 ????

oh. and there was no parking available.
