Leading on from the thread asking about new lids, i have a question that may seem a bit vain but please humour me....
I have relatively short hair (normally #2 ) when i take my lid off at work I notice with my Shoei I have definate helmet hair. not that I'm too bothered about my appearance but does make it look like I have a Mr T haircut.
any advice how I can reduce this?
like I say not bothered when out on a ride out & looking round a town or when I am at home just at work & trying to be professional..
oh & if the answer is to grow it longer thats not an option because of the proffesion I'm in.

Shave it all off for the full nude nut, pink crash helmet look.
Wear one of those bandana head scarf things (not sure it works but been recommended before) and one was supplied with my new crash helmet.
Keep a bottle of water with you (or use pub, office, service station restroom), wet your hands and rub it through your short hair to wet it. it will be dry agin in a few seconds and back to normal.
-
I use a neck buff that i pull up over the head at the back and down to mouth at front.
keeps wind and bugs out of your neck/jacket and helps keep your lid liner clean and less helm hair.
In winter i sometimes swap that to a silk balaclava.

Helmet hair is caused by a deadly combination of static and sweat. You could try an old trick, which Is to put one of those anti-static tumble dryer sheets on your head before putting on your lid and try not to sweat (impossible). Seriously, it is supposed to help.
But, have you noticed, some young persons thesedays pay hairdressers good money for 'helmet hair' styles?

yep i do the same, i also have short #2 cut and also find when getting to work that its usually the back of my head and the crown bit at the top that has gone mental, my hair grows straight outwards like a white mans afro so has to be kept short coss it is impossible to comb or style :o
but a neckie pulled over the top sorts it for me (well for my 20min ride to work anyway) on a day out its just screwed regardless :\
-
Put a tub of gel in your bag and sort it out when you get to work, you only look like a vain pillock for 10 mins rather than have helmet for the whole day.

I had my first hair cut in over ten years last year.
Was just taking control as it was leaving me anyway.
A few months ago, I got fed up with hair cuts, so I bought some clippers and gave myself a no.1
So the idea was just to run the clippers through once a month. But now the bike is back on the road, yeah I've noticed a bit of a helmet hair issue.
So just looks like I'll have to use the clippers twice a month. Keeping it down to a no.1 should I hope prevent any helmet hair issues.

OHHHH NOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!
In from work, shower then apply gel. When you arrive at work the next morning wet your hands and rub them over your head, job done.

Just watched the video posted by Enceladus and there is a quote on it that says "Helmet hair is a badge of Honour" !! think i'll be using that from now on and stuff what anyone at work thinks !! lol :D
-
Have you considered waxing???
-
Or a epilady :eek
-
Just stick your comb in the fumes from the exhaust then comb your barnet for a lovely shiney head of hair

The advice about a neck tube thingy is the best I can give. I have a #2 as I work for her Majesty and she states I have to have short hair!!
I used to get the helmet hair coming into work everyday and used to get told off for looking scruffy!! Was okay once the feret was put on head as it hid it ... lol ......anyway ... I started to use the neck tube/scarfs and it did the trick, recently I forgot to put one on and upon taking helment off and running my fingers across the back of my head I felt the dreaded helmet hair again!!!!!
-
As I get older the hair has got thinner but I keep it short-its less weight on the bike! :lol
Are we men getting more vain?-It used to be the ladies who said "I cant do a thing with it! :rolleyes "
The mind boggles at what sort of helmet hair youd get wearing a turban :eek
