Ok found it, it is a dodgy ignition barrel, purely by chance I held onto the key and it started first time. turned it off and then back on and nothing wiggled the key whilst holding the starter button and it fired up.

So is this a new ignition barrel needed or can you striop them and fix it??

FZS600 Fazer / Bike will not start no spark Ideas?? FOUND THE PROBLEM
« on: 27 September 2016, 04:57:31 pm »
Bike has not been used for about 4 weeks due to intermittent fault that I have with it.

It all started where I would start it in the moring do the 6 mile journey to work and park her up, come out at a night time and she would start no problems, then one day I need to nip out around 1 hour after I got to work and the bike took an age to start, once running it was fine.

Then one day same again got to work and went to go out again and it started but when i got to where I was going and into the shop about 5 mins it would not start at all, managed to start her after 1/2 hour or so and it ran fine. got her home and checked no spark.

So after a series of weeks and trying different things I have replaced the regulator as that was down on one of the readings this did not help at all still no sprk, changed the coils as they where the obvious culprit and this time the bike started not a problem, ran it for around 10 minutes and then it would not start but I did have a spark but a weak one, left it an hour or so and it started but again once warm it would not start.

Ordered a new set of plugs and have put those in tonight and it will not start, as again it has no spark.
So it looks like the spark it working some times but not others, the hottness of the bike might be a factor BUT seeing as it will not start tonight after a new set of plugs I doubt its that, so have you guys any ideas where I turn next. The battery is brand new 2 months ago as the old one was shot.

Oh just to add, it is getting petrol as when I took the plug out it was wet and the smell pf petrol is there too

I do not know if they fit BUT I did swap out the forks on an R6 for R1, I had to change the triple tree as well to the R1 one but they worked well and improved the bike no end.

worth investigating

Thanks for the reply, thats the trouble nothing works to start it, You would expect the bike once ran and warm to start without the choke, but it does not it just turns over and over like it has no spark.

I bought the bike last year, I have changed the oil and filter but nothing more as it was running fine and all if a sudden this problem, starts fine any other time except when warm/hot.  Tried it this morning and yep first touch of the button and it fired up, with a bit of choke then turned the choke off once started and yep ran fine.

Going down the cheaper route of new plugs and filter like you say start cheap work my way up. Will strip it tonight and check things out

FZS600 Fazer / Bike will not start when hot???
« on: 12 July 2016, 03:40:57 pm »
Hi Guys

Over the last few days my bike has been struggling to start when hot,  turning over and over and nothing, tried full choke with full throttle and it started but today nothing.

Bike turned over and over I tried all sorts of combinations but nothing, whilst chatting to a mate I was all set to leave it when i said one more go and it started, no choke just straight away as soon as I touched the starter.

Bike has done 11K miles and 99 model,  so getting petrol as it stinks when turning over, I was thinking coil packs as I has a problem with a car once hot it would not restart, replaced them and it was fine.  So could this be the problem with the bike??

Thanks

Done the bars.

Got some Renthal street fighter in black, with some new Renthal Grips in grey.   WOW what a difference a set of bars can make to a bike.

Thanks Guys

The bars are all rusted, so I would need new standard ones, but like the straight bar look, could clean the standard ones up and put back when I sell it

Hi Guys

My 99 Model Fazer is starting to look a little un kept, it is completely standard with the standard bars, is it possible to change the bars for straight ones, I know it can be done with the fairing removed but can it be done with the fairing still in place??? if so any idea on what size??

Cheers

Well I tried at the weekend tobalance the carbs, that was the easy bit, but the bit in that tutorial said to do the TPS but i could bot get mine ot read anything on the rev counter so I have no idea if it is set correctly or not.

Followed the instructions but nothing, any one nay ideas as to why??

Thanks

Hi

I know this is an old thread but I got linked to it.

I did the firsat part of getting the TPS to the right position, but when I did as the instructions the rev counter did absolutely nothing. Now the TPS is well lets say not in the same place it was when I started as i did not really pay attension to where it was.

What could cause the rev counter to not show a result and any way of setting it without the rev counter???

Apart from that great write up and my carbs are all balanced
