just curious.
wondering to get some engine bars or would crash bungs be better ?
not falling off would be the best plan, but........ :rolleyes
also, are there good / not so good makes ?

I looked at both and went for crash bungs.
I think the bars are better, but as I don't ride much (can't ride at all at the moment - and look at the weather! :() I went for the less obtrusive option.

I had bars on my tiger 1050, and it saved the engine/frame when the big cat went down. Had bungs on my sportsbikes, but thankfully never used them.
I'm sure they will all save your wallet in some way, shape or form should the unthinkable happen. Lets just hope whatever you get, you never need!

I ordered some engine bars today. Hopefully I'll never find out how well they work. (What are the odds I fall off before they arrive?)
Here is a thread I started last year about engine bars. A few people posted recommendations, although nothing about crash bungs.

If you intend on crashing more than once then go for the bars,
much much better protection offered compared to just bungs.
Bungs only offer decent protection up to 20mph, anything over this and the pivot point they create puts too Much force onto the long bolts that hold them on, these bolts then tend to bend under the pressure, this in turn can strip threads in the engine or frame depending on where they're mounted and ultimately can cause just as costly damage to repair as damaging the fairings/ engine covers,
This is said from numerous experiences.
The other advantage with crash bars is that you too can get that 'urban courier' look and cable tie a 'for sale' sign to it as a fairing, who needs fancy plastic expensive fairing lowers when you can just pinch a local sign!?

I got bars reduced to clear for £30 for mine. Arrived the day after I scuffed the generator cover falling over from a rear tyre slip on a tram line.

Too true. Good observational skills, A* for you :lol . However it can be difficult to turn in to a junction sometimes without crossin the blighters.

Where';d you happen to get them for that price fella? I wouldn't mind a set myself, but can't find any for less than about £90!

EBay seller poolemotorcycles. They were genuine yamaha so look very chrome and bulbous. Definitely not rentec style.
Just set up a search on eBay and get it to send you reminders when summat wot matches your criteria pops up.

Hello, Just a quick sort of related note on crash bungs - I've done some research and they definitely don't work over about 30 - mine wore down to the point where they had no effect when I came off at about 30 recently...
Think I'm going to get some engine bars instead. Or just not fall off again.

Having had both and crashed with both, I think engine bars provide better protection and are more practical at the expense of weight and looks (which is subjective). Personally I think that with the Fazer being a road biased bike, engine bars don't look half bad on them either.

Ive got rentec (I think) engine bars on mine. thankfully not needed them as of yet, but I dont mind how they look.

You can have a belly pan and crash mushrooms together if you use Yamaha stuff. It's what I have on mine. Not cheap but an exact colour match and looks awsome IMO
