Fazer8 / FZ8 / Re: So have yamaha sold any 8's ?
« on: 07 October 2011, 01:50:46 pm »
someone may buy one if they want a fz-1 but cannot afford the insurance on one, mostly young riders, but yamaha prices are a bit ott though, even their parts prices are expensive as i have noticed as i have also a honda vfr750
Doing a quick Google the FZ8 is insurance group 16 with the FZ1 coming in at 15 or 16 so insurance between the bikes isn't going to be an issue..........

apologies to any fz-8 owners, but thats how I see it. :\
No need to apologise to an empty room. Taste is subjective, some people will have seen something in the FZ8 that made them think it was worth buying, just none that have owned up to doing so far on these forums.

Good condition, ideal to put back on a bike you're selling so you can get a better price for your aftermarket shock, or to put on your bike whilst you get your shock serviced. Open to offers email me at pie dot eater at blueyonder dot co dot uk.

am i to understand then that my standard carb setup bike is normal when it starts from cold with a bit of choke and then the idle speed slowly falls until i ride it for a 100 yards or so and then it settles and yet, from warm is a tad reluctant to start without giving it a bit more throttle than i am mechanically sympathetic with? and the full monty kit fixes all this as well as giving more power?
Thats been my experience so far, although I've not been able to ride the bike as much as I'd like since last weekend.

Call me Anal but wouldn't this be better in the General section?

Another positive is that the choke works properly now, set it to the idle speed you want and it stays there....No more having to continually adjust the choke whilst you get your kit on. Plus when the bikes warm you can just hit the start button and it fires up and idles straight off just like a fuel injected bike.

I've just come back from my first post "Full Monty" ride ande am very happy, the bike feels like its lost a shed load of weight, it revs a lot more freely and pulls harder throughout the range. I guess due to the less restrictive airbox and loosing the rubber blanket that sits over the lid it not only goes better it even sounds better too.

So I'd also like to add my thanks to Mike especailly as he took the time and trouble to fit me in even though it meant a rediculously early start for him on a Sunday morning, it was much appreciated. It was great to finally meet him and watch him make a series of pretty complex operations look simple.

to be honest most of the bearings can be bought from a local bearing supplier
Whilst thats undeniable the point is that replacing the suspension linkage bearings and bushes due to a minimal amount of play appears to be futile.

I used to love loud cans or even straight through pipes on my bikes, but I'd make sure I kept the noise down in residential areas. Sadly a lot of local bikers dont have the same consideration and tear up and down my local roads (urban 20 MPH) with no baffles which makes me cringe, as a biker as I can only expect my neighbours judge me as a biker based on the behaviour that other bikers display. I'd say that well over 50% of the time I'm out on my bike I'll see a young kid spot me and then defensively put their hands over their ears expecting to be deafened (even though I have my baffle in), and I can only think that excessively loud bikes being ridden without consideration are not only putting these kids off riding but enforcing a negative image of bikers with their parents, other pedestrians, and residents. Because of this I now only ride with my baffle fitted.

...are they really as powerful as the old fazer 1000?
No, at least 15 horses and 10 torques less.

I had the same advisory this year (different test centre to last year). Looking back through the old forums I noticed that exactly as TMW says it seems to be a common occurance and replacing all of the bearings and bushes in the linkage wont eliminate the play.

I can't see the situation changing that radically from how it is now ie. the only way the legislation is policed is by making sure bikes leave the manufacturers meeting the rules and then checking the relevent systems annualy as part of the MOT. Any anti-tamper electronics will just mean a new market for plug in devices that enable owners to continue to mod their bikes to sort out the fuelling etc. As now come MOT time any 'naughty' bits will be removed and refitted the day after.

Wanting to sell bikes manufacturers are going to have to meet the legislation whilst still producing bikes people want, and if that means bikes that can have a Power Commander attached then I'm sure they're not goint to go out of their way to make this impossible.

Forums like this will not exist in a couple of years time ......we will not be able to modify our machines in any meaningful way......
From what I've read the propsals are not due to come into effect until 2015 and will only effect bikes manufactured from when the proposals are enforced. I believe that manufactures are already pre-emptively attempting to introduce emission reducing technology which may exceed these requirements making the proposed legislation redundant. Add to that the instability of the EU I'm not sure that in 4 years time they may have bigger concerns to worry about. I'd be grateful if someone could point out where the proposals suggest that vehicles manufactured before 2015 cannot be modified. In all honesty with 185 BHP and all the elctronic aids you could wish for currently available I don't think another 4 years development is going to produce motorcycles that need a great deal of modifications that will negatively effect emissions.

I can't see what good the standard settings for an R1 will do you considering the geometry and weight distribution will be totally different on the Fazer to what it was on the R1. There's a few folks who have done the same conversion it would probably be more worthwhile asking what settings they have ended up with.

Yup that's the EXUP fault code, have you serviced the EXUP recently? Incorrectly tensioned EXUP cables or a stuck valve is probably your cause, have a look here - http://www.cartestsoftware.com/fz1/exupmaintenance.html
