New toy project!
« on: 30 December 2012, 10:21:39 pm »
Brought myself a toy now that i have a garage to play with :)

Been stuck in a shed for 2 years then a garden for a year or so.
I thought it was bad but now i have started taking bits off its a lot worse than i thought heheh
never had a project before really other than a trike. so the idea is basicly to get it running and either use it for fun at the local airfield or maybe if i want a lot of punishment then get it mot'd

pictures make it look MUCH better than it is :P most of the electrics are rotted or held together with block conectors and the paint is screwed, fairing cracked and tank leaks like a tea bag :) (didnt know that till i filled it up)

my mate used to have one of those, very underated bike but not in everybodys taste,i thought it rode great so its a great project for you, parts should be quite cheap and easy to get still, the loom can be swapped or made plastics can be repaired and painted and tank can either be sealed or replaced ,aint seen one on road for a while so get it sorted and you can ride something that not everyone else has

Had the 750 version from new (untill it got nicked affter 13 months) it was fairly good for what it was. only real issue was the tank shape made rain run under it and on to the plugs. so it would missfire in the rain. the 600 is ment to have the same problems to.

Cost me £160.05 lol so dont owe me much, hence why im happy to just trash it at the airfield if i cant get it running on the road cheaply.

Straife i moved just a little way away to marine drive. garage is great but no power and its to far away (in a block) to run leads to. but it dose meen i get to have a toy and keep the gen 1 under cover finaly so its out of the sand storms that i had near the beach :)

i had a black one of these 600cc paid £10 for it,
i did get it running and had a little ride around on it but i didn't like it at all so sold it ,
issues i had.
the exhaust headers were completely rotten and i was unable to get secondhand ones - so i adapted some from an rf600 - not a very good idea and i wouldn't recommend it,
calipers seized - normal rebuild process
every bolt on the fairing seemed to be a different size.
all bolts seemed to be made of choclate,
good luck and enjoy

On the plus side it has a full SS system 4 into 1.
Finally got the fairing off and going to replace all bolts, as said I had to drill half of them out and they are about 4-5 diff sizes LOL.
Tank is totally gone, large rusty hole and a few other rust patchs.
Might be able to weld but its a lot of work. Sadly 2nd hand ones seem expensive.

Keeping a picture record so bound to post some up now and then till I get bored or you guts do. I know lots of you have had projects before but for me its exciting for now LOL.
Seems the 750 shares some parts but only limited years and parts. But tank is one of them.

It's a tank I need more than anything. It was patched and leaking but after a good clean up the tank is beyond help.
1 corner has rotted away and the inside dont look like its far behind :(
I used to have the 750 so am used to the jokes and coming back to tea bags and biscuits left on the seat LOL.
