Post Thanks?
« on: 15 July 2013, 12:26:15 am »
Just thinking out loud really, would it be possible to have some sort of "post thanks" system added to the new site? something like this:

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=176565.0

I know that even though Ive only been here a short while, a lot of members have been helpful to me, and sometimes its hard to post up and thank them when a thread has moved onto another topic, so a system where you could click a "thanks" button to that specific members post could be a nice addition i think?

It could well just be me though

Personally, I'd rather someone I helped type "Thanks Farjo", but what do others think?

Its a great tool, I've used it on a few other forums. It would be superb if we could have it on here.
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

Yeah, I do agree that where possible this is the best way, but like I said, on a busy thread with a few topics going on (or some banter flying about) it sometimes feels wrong to post a thank you a few pages after the actual post as the thread has moved on. Of course, always better to put an actual thanks as well though.

Thanks Farjo :lol

There's a messages for members section you could use

I like this idea - I've seen it on other forums I think whereby members earn a sort of Reputation Score based on their history and advice. Only issue I can think of is how to prevent it from being abused :P

That's the problem. I've seen this sort of system devolve into virtual open warfare with people "Revenge Repping" every post from someone who's upset them whilst upvoting their mates' posts.

Now, of course, I'm not saying that this would happen on these forums, since everyone here is such a kind-hearted, open-minded and forgiving soul and wouldn't let a difference of opinion or personal animosity drive such things, but I thought I'd mention it anyway...  :evil

Some kind of simple +1 (google plusesque) on a post is good even if you don't track them or use a reputation system (I'd be knackered  ;)  .  Saves a thread getting tangled up/log with posts that just say "thanks".

Opinions are like A**holes, Everyone has one.  Some people seem to have more than one though which is a bit odd.
