General / Decibel police on the A272
« on: 27 November 2020, 08:31:41 am »
A “loud pipe unit” captured 3 riders a few days back, on the A272. As they approached one of the villages on that route they got a warning from an oncoming rider that that cops were about. They made sure they were well under 30, came round a bend and got pulled over by this unit. The cops agreed they were doing 26, but could hear the exhaust notes, so placed some microphone kit by the bike, which then got revved to 5k. Apparently excessive noise is considered to be 86db, but give some leeway to 90db. They all failed which incurred a 50 quid non endorsable fine. I think one got done for a small number plate as well. Is this what we’ve got to look forward to now.

The appeal on Iannone's 18 month ban, didn't go to plan, with the appeal court upholding the original 4 year ban. If he wants it, Cal should be in a good position for the vacant Aprilia seat, as Bradley has been relegated from his test rider job, by Savadori, this years Italian Superbike winner.
Looks like Dovi will take a year out, at the moment, so Cal could be well placed for the slot.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / A couple of electrics questions.
« on: 12 October 2020, 06:59:05 pm »
Having had a recent reg/rec failure, I’ve fitted a voltage display, taking the live from the side lamp wiring. My pals BMW S1000RR has a similar gadget which shows around 14.2 volts on tickover, whereas mine is around 13.3volts. What determines the voltage output to the battery. Is it the circuitry within the reg/rec, or the construction method of the stator/generator.
Secondly, on tickover, the voltmeter measurement across the battery is around 0.4/0.5 volt greater, than that shown on the display unit. If I place the unit across the battery again on tickover, the display matches the voltage that the voltmeter recorded. So the accuracy of the display unit is quite good. Is the loss due to the loom itself, plus the fact that the headlights would be on, as well as the neutral lamp and the HealTech gear indicator.
Thanks in advance folks.

General / Maintenance free chain.
« on: 01 September 2020, 03:49:48 pm »
Looks like BMW have come up with a maintenance free chain, which they've called M Endurance. It's being offered as a £100 option on S1000RR's and S1000XR's. Seems all clever stuff in conjunction with Regina by the look of it. Looks like a normal X ring but with an industrial diamond coating (ta-C). No lubing or adjusting. Scott oiler shares will be in a tailspin. :lol

This is mainly A and B roads with minimal motorway.

Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) / RIP Carlo Ubbiali
« on: 03 June 2020, 10:50:28 am »
Carlo Ubbiali sadly passed away yesterday aged 90. I expect only old timers on here would remember him. He was a 6 time 125 world champ and 3 time 250 world champ, in fact winning both in ‘56,’59 and ‘60. He started racing in 1946, the year I was born, and also went on to win IOM 5 times, as well as a Gold medal in the ISDT.
RIP Carlo.

Anyone have any experience of these. The oe horn on the bike is useless, but don't fancy fitting a relay, compressor etc. Just want a plug'n'play horn that can be heard. Your thoughts anyone :)

Michael Dunlop will be on a Duke for this years NW200 and the TT, riding a V4R Panigale for PBM(Paul Bird Motorsports). This is quite interesting as although they've stamped their authority on short circuit events, Dukes haven't in the past been famous for their longevity. They have always got a big cheer when finishing endurance races. :)

LOFOs. March 22nd will be the 81st year of running the event for pre 1915 motorcycles. Starting from Tattenham Corner on Epsom Downs, the first bike departs at 8am. This years finishing line is at Brighton City Airport, in an attempt to avoid the normal high build up of traffic which severely baulks these old bikes. There's a tea hut by the starting area.

Jenny Tinmouth will be back on UK grids this coming season competing in the British Superstock 1000 Championship. Her race number will be 25 aboard a BMW S1000RR.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Rear wheel roller bearing help
« on: 16 January 2020, 09:19:35 pm »
Wheels are away at the powder coaters, and will be ordering the replacement bearings from Marksman. As the roller bearing is described as sealed, I am presuming an oe type seal is not required. With regard to installation, would leaving it in the freezer for an hour be sufficient to locate it, or should I be prepared to make a press with some studding and washers to persuade it to fit. Thanks in advance for any advice and suggestions

If anyone fancies it, can meet on the A3 south of M25, or Popham services on A303. This whizz is predominantly A and B roads, and is roughly 470 miles round trip from South London.

Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) / Bautista to Honda
« on: 07 August 2019, 07:51:54 pm »
Looks like there'll be a vacancy in the Ducati garage as Alvaro is likely to turn down his new Ducati contract. Honda are throwing their weight behind a WSB campaign next season, and Alvaro looks like he's going to be the main man. Jack hasn't got a deal for next year yet, but can't see him fancying that somehow. Maybe Scott would enjoy being on the road again. I'm pretty sure Haslam's only on a 1 year deal, and that spot could be Topraks next year. The merry go round begins.

Anyone going to Scarborough next weekend. Booked my ticket months ago when it included free camping. Foggy, McPint and Dean Harrison are down to ride and the current weather forecast is ok. Plan to get there when the campsite opens at 2pm, get plotted up, then in to town for a few beers.
