I don't subscribe to the "it's more fun not using a sat nav" philosophy. It's no fun looking for a hotel or petrol station at 8pm when you are knackered. Maps for planning and back-up but sat nav for trips. Just ignore if you are feeling adventurous but have it when you need it.

Hi Nigel, FZS is a cracking bike and I would still have one in my garage now if I had room! The tricky bit now is finding a nice early unmolested example. You will enjoy it :)

Yep, I fitted an Evotech tail tidy, but after a trip around Europe and back drenched several times it came straight back off. I ended up buying a spare standard bracket and shortening it. I have got any good photos of it fitted but you can see most of it below and get the idea. Shorter, looks better and could have been factory fitted. It basically entails cutting the steel side plates in half and overlapping them with roof bolts. The plastic outer is then trimmed to match. That together with the hugger extender meant dry back :)

tony_d123 ... BEAUTIFUL machine, congratulations.  :thumbup

Thank you :)

Think it's a case of being content only with what you are familiar with / what you know. Then, you went out and tried something NEW (not forgetting the MT-09 is almost 15 years NEWER than a FZS600), and you've seen the light. lol.

It was an FZ1 that I traded in, so not that much of a culture shock.
I traded the FZS600 for a new FZ1 in 2009 and remember thinking that I had made a mistake while I was riding it home. A week later I loved it but I rarely used all the power, you would be doing very silly speeds! I was sad to see it go though, awesome bike.

Although there have been various reports of the suspension on the MT07/09 bikes not being up to the job you have to factor in "gross" ie all up fully kitted out weight of rider.
Very true, most Japanese bikes are designed for a 5'9" 11 stone test rider, which just happens to be what I am, so I rarely have to alter suspension that much :)
The earlier MT's had test reports of basic suspension (understandable considering the price) but still probably far more adjustment than most people will ever use in real world riding, unless they are Valentino Rossi. I am sure that most lighter/heavier people who complain about poor suspension, simply don't have it set up to suit them. But then again, I ride Kawasaki triples so anything post 1978 feels good :rollin

Was that a 2016 model? They have upgraded the front and rear suspension on the new one and I can't fault it.

After 8 years of FZ1s ownership (and FZS600 before that) I decided that it was time for a change. The FZ1 has taken me all over Europe and has been a brilliant bike, which is why I have hung on to it so long, but I took a test ride on an MT-09 and was hooked!
The MT is a revelation to ride, enough power, light and handling is in a different league. Definitely puts a smile on my face.

I have tried Airhawks, gel pads etc and the only thing that really makes a difference for me is padded cycle shorts. Cheap too from your nearest Sports Direct :)

What a shame, but keep at it. It's great to see someone riding something other than race reps :)

Thanks for that Hedgetrimmer. It's interesting to know that there's a reason behind sudden drops in quality. I'm pretty sure the dreadful quality of the latest Dainese jacket I bought recently is due to them being bought out a couple of years ago. It just isn't up the standards of jackets I've had previously.

Are you sure it's not fake? There seems to be lots about.

Oh, and they are a bugger to get even lightish bikes on and off. Definitely try before you buy!

It's not as simple as strengthening the tow bar, they make your steering feel incredibly light which equates to less grip and possibly greater risk of under steer, aqua planing etc. Obviously the larger the vehicle the less effect they have.

I like it and you will have loads of fun riding around the outside of all the race reps.

Great idea. Did you not know it's the law that you have to have speed blocks on yellow Yamahas though?  :lol
