I have been out with Nick Crisp , he was ahead of me, out of sight, I came around the corner, there was his bike on its side, sticks, stones everywhere, passed it and there he was lay by the road in the grass,,i saw him open his visor,
that alone was the biggest relief, got to him, he was having a struggle to breath but was manageing it, and odd word,,
Ambulance,, he talked better after ten miutes,,back pain,,so onto a board and gone to Shrewsbury hospital.. hope is is going to be ok xxx
Bike,,well ran out of road,,went along the trees,hedge,not through it,,slid , more like,,dented tank,,right footrest off,,but mostly seems ok,,as is him I hope..
Bike, I rode it to a house nearby, a local bloke stopped and was brill, his wife a firstaider orso,

Got to love this modern culture of taking pictures of extreme situations and unfortunate victims :lol
Reminds me of a mate of mine who is a retained fire fighter, turns up on a shout but has to get the compulsory selfie first with his colleagues with building burning out of control in the background....Priceless photo.
-
Ouch, sorry to hear this, hope he is ok, never great hitting the deck :(
-
Hope he recovers quick. And gets back on a bike soon.
-
I thought this was his previous excursion thread! Hope it's a speedy recovery
-
That pic looks like a injury crawlers 4 u when the twat falls off a ladder

No, he did not take photo's , he had a go-pro on, and took stills from it,,
I was the one taking photos while he was lay there getting his breath back,,i was bored :lol :lol
-
I just been into hospital to see him,,grumpy twat :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
First scan seems to show 2 possible fractured vertibrae :( :eek
He seems chirpy enough,,even thinking we can fix up the bike and maybe ride it home :eek,,calm down now :lol :lol

Wishing Nick a speedy recovery.

I cant see what there is for him to be grumpy about slim....not like he's plastered all over foc-u lying in the undergrowth like a bit of road kill.......oh wait......he doesnt know yet :b
Well im no doctor but im pretty sure fractured vertebrae is better than nerve and/or disc damage so here's hoping that its some clean fractures that will fuse themselves solid again.
Lucky those trees are so bouncy & forgiving too......he'll get a name for himself doing hedge strimming stunts like that......"strimmer the strummer".....if he aint inside strumming he's outside strimming.
Come on Nick get online in your bed & reveal.

Did he manage to get the picture of the blackbirds nest in the hedge? :lol
-
He actually looks quite comfy laying there in the grass
-
Blimey sorry to hear this all the best Nick get well soon.
BUT no one has asked the real question yet…. who was winning? :lol
-
Hope the silly sod makes a full and speedy recovery.
-
A heartless foccer would wonder which of the pictures was going to feature in the 'caption competition'
-
Hi Nick sorry to hear of your off, if you have suffered some fractures to your back then hopefully they should mend okay by them self. Take the opportunity to have a rest you will just have to suffer those nurses rolling you about and giving you bed baths, it's really terrible. (been there and done all that). Best Wishes.
-
Not good! :eek Best wishes for a speedy recovery Nick!
-
2nd scan today, so hopefully they will know more of his injuries (or not) :)
-
Mite as well send bike here so I can sort it
-
that right side is less photogenic now. hopefully he will be ok soon.
-
Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever...
Forget all the sympathy bollocks, what's the news on the bike? :D
-
He actually looks quite comfy laying there in the grass
The grass looks more comfortable than the hospital bed :\
-
not sure wooden mirror stems will catch on. :) .
-
So easy to come unstuck when you're having fun. Best wishes for a speedy recovery Nick.

-
This is how I see it.....When the old boy eventually gets on line, he's going to want cheering up, so.....
Did someone mention caption competition ?
Let me start the ball rolling
Hello Luke, yes I think I may have found the limits of that R1 front end. :lol
-
Yeah...gave him that kick in the bollocks he's been in need of - let's go.
-
Nick suddenly had an epiphany :think
His new career was now clear to him :b

-
You rotten foccers, poor old nicks in a lot of pain and discomfort and all you can do is take the piss, shame on you....dont worry nick, rest assured I wont be joining the heartless bastards ;)

I will try to get to him, tonight for an update :)
-
Never nice to hear someones messed it up. Hope you get well soon. Perhaps some lessons from an Advanced Instructor will fend off a repeat performance. Regards mike
-
Sorry to hear this, and best wishes for a (you and bike) speedy recovery.
Right, now for the important bit :-
"See what happens when you stop just a bit too quickly for a piss in the bushes"
-
Get well soon fella
-
Get well soon - I hit a deer and had an off last year, broke my collarbone and 5 ribs at the time. It was the three months of not riding which hurt the most. (May, June & July :'( )
-
Well I have seen him tonight, looks ,sounds and feels a lot better,
He is sat up a bit in bed, he is going to be fitted with a brace,up his back and front, bolted together :lolreally uncomfortable
The damaged bits in his spine seem to need holding in place until the area has settled, I don't think it is too bad as long as the bones don't move, pinch nerves..don't know how long that will be on.
-
Thats good of you to go and see the fallen foccer...top man bill :thumbup ........sort of good and bad news then......good news, no surgery. Bad news, hes in a cage.........could be worse, could be a four wheeled cage :lol..........lets hope he heals quick without too much pain...
-
That's good to hear, all going well he should be back in action in 6 to 8 weeks. :)
-
Well done slim glad he's on the mend again :rolleyes.
-
Good to hear he's heading in the right direction. :)
-
good man Slim....perhaps you've made up for 1 of the pics of him :lol
I suppose it's much the same as any bone aint it.....6 weeks of not moving it until it heals........is it just bone...he didn't knacker any discs did he?
-
I've been out the loop for a few weeks.
Hope your ok Nick, and make a speedy recovery.
All the best from north of the boarder.

Yeah...gave him that kick in the bollocks he's been in need of - let's go.
More like - "Splitters, told you we'd get'um"
-
Slim - on a serious note, it's not good news about Nicks back and certainly wouldn't fancy it myself...... so the question is, was he wearing a back protector ???? If he wasn't then do you think it may of helped him. Just thought I'd ask seen as there are a few new riders on the forum and a bit of "advice" would help.
Me - Big D30 back protector and all other armour D30.
Best of wishes to Nick.

Whilst the question is interesting in itself, remember Nick has had very big offs before. Can't remember if his last smashup involved back damage, but it's why his left (I think?) shoulder is weaker than his right one. With a weakened system, I would suggest he would be more susceptible to bits breaking to those who haven't seriously injured themselves in the past.

I think it would be a good idea for you to start a separate post all about what protection you wear.

Simple, straight and relevant question I thought. Not digging him out if he wasn't wearing one - his choice on what he wears. I know he has had previous offs and issues as a result. Like I said, maybe a heads up for newbies.
-
Agreed.
-
With Fazersharp...
-
I wasnt digging at you I think its a great idea but could get lost if left in this post, im ready to add my protection to the post when you kick it off
-
Sorry all, Fazersharp is right....been a bit of a dick, wasn't thinking and taken the thread away from the main issue - Nick.
Moderators, any chance you can lose the comments starting from mine @ Today at 09:35:13 PM ??

Nick as i do too wear good quality bike jackets with back armour built in,mine feels fairly solid ,,he landed on the sharp edge of the tarmac where it finished and dropped onto grass lower down,a very sharp edge,,,how much his inbuilt armour helped ,,no one knows
As for his riding ability, well he said he has ridden over 3000 miles in the last two and a half weeks :eek ,, when this happened admitadly
we were riding for fun,,you kno, we all do it sometimes, vrrmmm vrmmm :lol , watch the hedge :eek :evil
The damage would not of been so bad but Nick is a bit weak on his right shoulder side,,years ago damage,,lots of it,,as he dropped off the edge of the road,,he thought he could still survive it but the jolt made him slip back on the seat and opened the throttle wide,,, :eek :eek
, yes he did those bushes on full throttle,,haha,, riding the hedge of death,,,a witness told us of the screaming engine..
I ask,, is this the first Yamaha 1000 strimmer to be used in Wales ??? :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Laughin my tits off at this thread!
Just got back home, 120 mile ambulance ride from, er, Bill tells me it was Shrewsbury, knew it was in Shropshire somewhere :rolleyes
First off, many thanks to slimwilly for visiting and mercilessly ripping the piss out of me, keeping me up to date with some of the comments here - top man, very much appreciated :thumbup
Many thanks for all the good wishes expressed here, this remains a great little community we have here :thumbup
Just a short reply for the moment, bit tired, bit sore :\
Sum total of damage to myself was two cracked vertebrae (t9, t10), no displacement, and all stable. Bruises and contusions to lungs, and discovered on getting mobile again properly for the first time yesterday having had a back brace fitted that I must have twisted my left knee a bit (again :rolleyes), but not too bad, will heal ok I think.
Luke, will be in touch shortly :)
@taylor - that showed you sheep-shaggers, didn't it! :lol
@frosties - you will NEVER get your hands on my bike! :lol
Yellow ones definitely trim hedges better than any other colour :D
-
Good to hear your home nick.......take it easy matey :)

You and Christo could have days trips :lol
Just to put the record straight ;)
This little trip into the undergrowth was not because of the bike - a momentary lapse of concentration on my part, all down to me. We'd just about got to Newtown, and that bike was handling beautifully. I had actually eased off a bit when I came off; looked back at where I was going, to find it just too late to correct and save it :rolleyes Once again, a low speed spill where circumstances contrived to ensure that once in the situation, I just couldn't get out of it in time. At one point, even running along the hedgerow on the grass verge, I thought I'd get it back on the road, but somehow I slipped/was pulled back on the seat, causing me to actually open the throttle, and I wasn't able, for just a fraction of a second, to let it go. I dunno, hard to put everything exactly into sequence in my head now.
I'm just now hoping that the back injury doesn't affect me too badly in the long term. I already had some back problems accumulated over the years, making some things hard work (like washing the bike for instance :( ), but was managing ok. The X-rays and scans they did this time around confirmed a number of compressed etc vertebrae from previous times, some possibly as a direct result of injury, some from more indirect use having to carry for so many years other injuries elsewhere. At the moment, I'm fine after taking the shit-load of painkillers I've been prescribed and a bit of a rest, but this morning, feck me, that wasn't fun to wake up to!
I don't need anyone to jinx me fella; I do that quite adequately all by myself :\ I dunno - I know I should ease off a bit, but when I get on those lovely winding roads, I just can't seem to help myself. Thank feck I have no dependants to worry about, cos I'm sure one of these days it'll be end-ex for me.
But, d'you know, I was having so much fun up til the point where I realised I was gonna hit the deck that if I'm ever going to go, this is the way I would want it to be. In hospital, I sat and watched an old fella die of a chest infection and other complications - if that's dying of old age, you can keep it. Sounded like he was trying to breathe underwater at the end.
I once said that the day that all I can ride is a scooter, I'd quit two wheels. I think the same would apply to trikes.
Thanks again to all the well-wishers. Dave48, half the bleedin country would be named after me if we were to go down that route! :lol I thought ARAF meant "go for it, you riding God" :lol
-
Get them pills in ya !!! :lol :lol
Don't dwell on it too much,,just another slip up ,,there would of been a few more by the end of summer.
Best foot forward, wheel I mean,,,looking forward to riding with you again,,wont be long.
-
got to say Nick that I agree with you in that if I gotta go then i'd rather it be doing something I love & enjoy than other ways!
glad your on the mend & hope you recover soon to enjoy the thrill of 2 wheels! (some of those scooters have big 600 engines in them and don't half shift!! so don't discount them out right!)

Just checking your confusion level to see if it effects your spelling/grammar abilities :lol
-
So what's the plan Nick....DY does the bad boy treatment on the strimmer and you use and abuse it until it dies and then you strip it of salvageable parts for number 5 fazer???...surely that'd mean you don't need number 5 yet.

well bikes back with me and the shopping list starts if anyone has donations will save lot hunting
bill the geezer at hilltop was a top bloke very helpfull
as to the crash site if it had been any of the three previous bends id had said thats were i would have expected it to of occurred
but the scene is a wide open down hill bend and not to taxing, the damage to the foilage would indicate a very late exit
two things worry me the center stand is broke in a very odd way and there is a mark on the rear tyre not consistant with the damage
im no acciadent expert i just say wot i see and cant explain
its late im knackered as a 300 miles round trio being largly stuck behind fuckin push bikes on some endurance race
ill review my findings later in the daylight

If you put a list up of what parts are needed when you have assessed luke, if I have any of it spare I'll happily donate it to the cause :)

Good on you foccers,,
And well done to you Luke,,a good mate for anyone to have. I am sure nick will give you a kiss.
Yes,Craig who had the bike at his house was a brilliant bloke,a fellow biker,,very helpful.
