FZS600 Fazer / Help - speedo/electric problem
« on: 24 May 2015, 01:47:48 pm »
I bought a 1999 fazer a few weeks ago and have a speedo issue.
A few days ago, the speedo needle suddenly went crazy and started to go round to 160mph down country lanes! (you should see the milometer fly by at that speed)
It would sometimes settle down and work correctly. A few days later, it didn't work at all so I took the front wheel off and both lugs had gone. Bought a new rotor and fitted it yesterday.
Today went for a ride but no joy, no speed showing. The rev counter has been working fine throughout all this. Anyway , was giving it some stick over the mountain and the rev counter started playing up going to nil and then back to normal.
The bike goes really well, starts first time and the battery seems to be charging ok.
Could this issue be something to do with the regulator/rectifier over producing a charge? or is it maybe the main speed sensor. the fact that the rev counter started to play up seems to point to an electrical issue. When the pace slowed down, the rev counter was fine
Funny enough, when I got the bike, both rear side lights and the front headlight had blown - I did replace all these bulbs and they have been fine since
any ideas chaps?
This is my 3rd fazer, and it is very smooth and does go well.
Many thanks
