General / Re: Recommend a decent Sat Nav?
« on: 07 January 2012, 06:03:48 pm »
I  use a very cheepo navigo 3.5 I have fitted TT 7.9 europe  I bought a standard motor bike mount clamp and a home made charger ,Walkman headpones for sound. This is permanently connected to the battery and a loose lead, cable tied around the steering head. Used this set up quite a lot over the last 3 years , Overhead sun can be a problem ,but apart from that great !

General / Electric heated jacket !
« on: 28 December 2011, 03:17:03 pm »
Second winter of using these now , Partner an myself+ inlaw use them . I still can't get over how good they actually are ours don't have any heat controllers but manage to stay at just the right temp. No longer an ordeal now riding at motorway speed on a winters day. At £40 Ebay they make the oxford rage of clothing seem dear , My inlaw also got a posh battery pack powered jacket , cost him over a hundred pounds but I don't really think it is any better than our cheepos.
I don't have any £ relationship to anybody selling these, but just calling a spade a spade they are good! An easy matter to rig a cigar lighter power take of on the fazer fairing panels. or get an optional battery pack , Combined with heated grips great!

General / Re: New helmet time!
« on: 29 November 2011, 07:45:00 pm »
I like caberg flips, My favourite is an old J1+ not as steeply a curved visor as  my later trip,so i find the the veiw more natural. My partner has and I sometimes use a J1S! These are all good value helmets and fit us well , noise is a very subjective experience but with earplugs not an issue certainly not worth spending huge lumps of dosh. you pays yer money etc

I have just received this reply from Shell,
Read and form your own conclusion. I would urge people to write to them !

Thank you for your email.

Firstly, may I apologise if this gave you cause to contact us.

As part of the Petroleum Licence conditions, Customer Assistants must
ensure that the person dispensing petroleum or LPG is aged 16 or
over, as it is against the law for anyone under 16 to have access to
fuel or the pumps.  If the face of the person attempting to dispense
these fuels is obscured, the Customer Assistant can ask the person to
remove a motorcycle helmet, hood or baseball cap etc.  A visual check
of this nature is often very helpful in determining if a person is of
the required minimum age. In addition, the Customer Assistant may ask
for proof of age, if they are still unsure.

As a matter of security, customers are asked to remove helmets before
entering the sales building to pay for the fuel.

We value your feedback on this matter and shall inform the relevant
department. Once again, thank you for taking time to write to Shell
and we appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns.

General / Shell filling stations hassle
« on: 05 November 2011, 04:23:13 pm »
I had a new variation of the usual , remove helmet , put bike on stand hassle, yesterday. when i was asked to move to another pump as they could not see me properly. I voted with my wheels and went somewhere else for fuel , I have also mailed shell to tell them of my veiws on their hassle biker policy. I expect that they can live without my weekly £50 or so, spent on fuel
