The problem is they're butchering classics to do it, original unmolested R100RSs and the like will be unfindable before long. It make you piss when they 'café race' CD200 Benlys and the like though and put them on Ebay for £2k. Clip ons on a single seat don't make a dog slow, poor handling bike into a racer.

Yeah they are.. It's just a bit of road dirt, clean it off an' it'll be good as new.

FZS600 Fazer / Pillion verdict.

I took the OH on the back of the 600 today. We only did about 50 miles but she's happy and if she happy, I'm happy. The suspension coped better than I'd expected but it wasn't loaded with a weeks worth of female accoutrements + 2 clean tee-shirts and a spare pair of  boxers  :lol  The seats big enough and comfy, the footrests are in the right place and on the whole it's apparently a nice place to sit. All good so far :thumbup

Unfortunately I haven't got any Guinness in at the moment, I'll start on the Shiraz then maybe a McEwan's Export or two :)

Ooh now you're asking, I've never put a link on a forum before but no time like the present as they say. I'll give it a go but in the meantime (or if I fail) it's all over the place on Ebay and Amazon. Wish me luck :lol

Nice job on the pipes, how's the paint holding up? I was thinking of using VHT Flameproof but it's quite pricey. I think I will take them off though 'cos the longer they stay on without being removed the more difficult they're likely to be to take off when they need to be. Just a theory.

I restored a GPz750 a few years ago and had the exhaust ceramic coated inside and out. It was a beautiful finish and really tough but at £200+ I'm not sure I want to put that much into the Fazer at the moment. I'm already looking at upgrading the suspension. I only bought the thing as a stop gap while I'm saving for a 650 Versys and it looks like it's becoming a long term project. Bloody bikes... I'd save a fortune if I could just give them up :lol

Mine aren't too bad at the moment but I'll be doing them again before too much longer. They need to come off to get to the front of the engine for painting. I don't know yet, whether to drop it out or remove the radiator etc. and just mask everything else up and clean it up and spray it in situ, very tempted to do the latter. I know masking up will be an arse but I've taken bike motors out before and that ain't exactly easy either is it.

Yup, just checked 'em with a magnet and it sticks :(  If they are stainless they're very low grade stainless.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the later model fazers got stainless downpipes as standard, can anyone tell me if this is right or am I imagining it?

He did have a good start to his racing career with his dad's money but all the money in the world can't buy natural born talent.

Have you laid the sprocket on a flat surface like a pane of glass or a mirror? If it's brand new it may have been hardened or tempered badly.

General / Re: Green Plating?
« on: 16 March 2017, 05:24:30 pm »

Hi Alan, it's partly just cos I'm curious to know what it is but the condition of the bike is such that if I could sort the plating out, it would be close to mint. I understand what you mean about stainless but things like the coolant pipes, spindles and brackets etc. are unavailable or prohibitively expensive and by reproducing the finish it keeps the bike looking standard. I've called round various plating companies who seem unable to help.
