I went old and am very happy with my decision. I've added heated grips and spotlights.
Changed the indicator lenses to smoked and a smoked tail light is next.

Great bike. Can be ridden conservatively or get her beyond 6k revs and she takes off nicely.

It'll be a long and fulfilling relationship I hope.

I've ordered one of the black carbon fibre ones.  Seems they are a must have item.

I'll chance it with the silicone.

Still fancy a belly pan but hopefully a silver one will come up for sale one day.

Are they worth it?
Do they make a difference?

I'm thinking they possibly do but am worried it'll spoil the look of the bike. They only seem to come in black, not sure it'll go with my silver steed.

If they are worth it any recommendations?
Do the adhesive ones stay stuck or is drilling the best way?

Whilst I'm here what about belly pans? Loads more expensive so an expensive addition if they're of little use.

Mike, search on this forum for spotlights & you'll see what we all have. Chinese LED jobs. Including optional switch I fitted mine for about 17 quid

Ah yes, exhaust studs.

Am going to have a tentative turn of them this weekend to see if they all move.  If so I'll order some stainless ones.  If not then I'll leave as is until such a time I have no choice but to remove them.

Hi Mike,

You are a few weeks behind from myself having just purchased a 2001 Boxeye.

As stated the headlight mod is a good start although I've fitted LED Spotlights to the edges of the radiator, these make a huge difference and the spots outperform the headlights.
I've fitted heated grips, although now it's turned to Summer I don't need them.

I've opted (somewhat controversially) for smoked indicator lenses as I found the orange ones made them look longer stemmed than they actually are.  A matching smoked LED tail light will be going on this weekend.

From a pratical sense the 12mm sprocket nut is a must.  I've checked for play in advance and so far haven't got any but I've already got a new 12mm nut and will fit that sometime in the next week.  Prevention being better than anything.

I've not noticed an issue with the suspension front or back but then I'm still getting used to her so maybe in time they might be mods I consider.

Welcome to the group, since my arrival I've found people very welcoming and helpful. (Just don't mention smoked indicators) Lol.

Found this thread and thought I'd add my two pennies worth.

I've owned a Sinnis Apache 125 from new.  She's 4 and a bit years old now.

I researched all manner of Chinese bikes before I bought her and Sinnis came up the best.  It's identical to a Pulse Adrenaline and most Sinnis models are the same as Pulse and Lexmoto.
Came with 2 year warranty.

In the 4 years I've owned her she's been ridden at virtually full throttle everywhere as I commute along an A road.
Only fault I've had was the rev counter needle become bouncy.  Claimed under warranty and got a new set of dials but never fitted in order to keep the mileage correct.

One fork seal replaced.

Shes's done 10,000 miles.  Had 2 chains and 1 sprocket in that time.  Valve clearances done at about 8000 miles.

Cost me 1800 sheets including a DEP exhaust upgrade.  Sold her today for 600.

Depreciation of 300 quid a year.  That's pretty good going.

Do you still need a radiator cover?

I did order clear but then had a last minute change of heart & got smoked.

In the interest of science I've just taken some pics of the comparison between original lenses and smoked ones.
The smoked ones have orange bulbs and in my opinion make the bike look a little nicer.
Can I get any credit for not bastardising her too much by fitting LED indicators?

Orange on the left, smoked on the right.

The one wire I cut into was soldered. and then wrapped in heat shrink.

All other connections were made using insulated bullet connectors which were then wrapped in heat shrink.  I then wrapped the lot in electrical tape so there are no connectors exposed.  It'll be a nightmare to unpick should anything fail.

As for the issue of potential damage with the spots mounted on the rad.......I've no immediate plans to lay my bike down on it's side.  Fingers crossed.

Having recently undertaken the fitting of both spotlights and heated grips I'm now in the position of being able to impart my knowledge if anybody else is seeking guidance.

For info the grips I used were the cheap Chinese type from Ebay.  I did so on the recommendation of a work colleague who rated them.
Tell you what....they're pretty good, had to turn them down after 5 mins this morning.  They were only a tenner.  Only issue is that it's a throttle tube and grip in one and for some reason the collar for holding the cables was about 1mm too thick so when clamped down the throttle wouldn't release smoothly.  2 minutes with a file and jobs a good en.  It's probably something peculiar to the throttle cable clamp on the FZS as my mate has a Kwak and he had no such issue.

You've gone far too technical for me now.

I took the feed from the brown/blue ignition wire from just after the connector block in the box.

Working on the basis that was already a perfeprot circuit I've just added the grips & lights onto that.
The grips draw about 3A allegedly & the LED's are minimal so I've maybe added 5A in total.
The wire I've tapped into was probably the thickest in there.

I've not installed additional relays or fuses although I've the option of cutting my new feed wire & installing an inline fuse if required.

I had the grips, and spotlights on this morning along with the headlights. The bike didn't combust on the journey.  I had no use to use the horn though so maybe if I use that at the same time I could be in trouble. Lol

Well they're on & done.

Tried to run a feed via fuse box but couldn't get the connector out of the block to crimp a wire into so instead went into the connector box underneath the tank & found the ignition feed & cut into that.
Grounded everything via a bolt underneath the tank too.

Used the feed to put some heated grips on as well.
Can't for one minute think the ignition feed will be stressed by having grips & spots on them.

Anyway I believe it's obligatory to post pictures.

I've mounted mine on the higher of the two bolts on the side of the radiator.  They're on but yet to be connected as I'm awaiting a switch which I've ordered as I've decided to have the option of turning them off.

I'm hoping to get everything done including the heated grips over the weekend.

Obligatory photo's will be posted.

Next challenge is a gear indicator as I seem to like 7th gear.

I'm happy to wire them so they come on with the current lights and not have a switch.  Where I take my bike for MOT they aren't too fussy about stuff like that so I can't imagine it'll fail.

I'll only ever be doing a 13 mile commute in light traffic so I'm not sure I'm in any danger of stressing the battery out too much.

Would I need a relay for a pair of 10w led spotlights as used by others on here?

If I install a new loom for them do I pick up a feed from inside the fuse box similar to installing heated grips?

I'm sure it's probably been covered here already but I'm planning on fitting a couple of spotlights to compliment my current headlights (boxeye with twin modification).
What's the easiest way to wire these in.
I'm happy to have them permanently on with the headlights or should I use an independent switch for them?

Which wires do I tap into?

That's great, don't suppose you've a link to your spotlights have you?

Ah right, so there's little or no space behind the casing for LED.
HID an option if there was somebody local to do it. Not something I'd probably try & do myself.

The spotlight option seems good, seen some posts where they've been bolted to the outside of the radiator. I'm assuming it's then easy to pick up a feed from the current headlight?

Thanks for the useful tips gang. Hopefully the MOT will weed out any serious issues but straight after purchase she's going into my local garage for the once over.

I've seen a guy on ebay selling twin headlight electrics that are plug and play but I thought they involved cutting & joining into the existing cables?
Also is it easy enough just to fit some led bulbs to boost the headlights? Any do's or dont's on this front?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes she's totally original. At last MOT she had a new battery and tyres. She been idle for a couple of years but stored inside & kept ticking over. Part of the deal is she gets a service and a years ticket so if there is anything I'll know before.

Hi,
Just on the verge of becoming a Fazer owner with a deal struck on a 2001 fzs600.

Just before I part with my cash I'll throw a debate open.
Which bike should I get?

01 fzs600 with 8.5k. Sold by a work colleague & has been well looked after
08 fz6 with 50k. Sold by a retired gent who has maintained it irrespective of cost.

There is £350 difference.

I know there'll be views about which is the better bike.  It'll be used for a 25 mile round commute all year round. That's it.

Any thoughts?

Also anybody local to Louth or Grimsby areas?

Hello all,

I'm just finalising the purchase of a 2001 model with just 8.5k on the clock. It's owned by a work colleague and it's been well looked after.
She's silver and totally standard.

I'm planning on doing the twin headlight wiring trick & replacing the front sprocket nut which are things I've read about.
Is there anything else I need to be aware of or should do?

Anybody local to Louth or Grimsby?
