Not just the lenses I'm afraid but also the direction they face.

Well, the best way I've found to make sure which is which is to remember that the rear ones are usually behind you and the front ones....well, there in front of you aren't they ?. This of course should not be relied on as a constant as if you were to get on your bike facing backwards then the whole theory gets turned on it's head. Hope this helps.

I thought all 4 are the same, there is no up/down or left/right, the holes are the same size back and front

:lol    Some of the answer here are really funny .. we all need a good laugh from time to time!  :\

However .. if the poor bloke really does need a proper answer .. then as I recall (I've not had a Gen 1 for over five years) the difference is with the lengths of conecting wire .. the wires that hook up into the Bike Loom.

Shorter ones go to the rear I think .. they only have to cross the distance from one side of the numberplate area to the other.   Front wires need to cover the much longer distance across the front end of the bike  8)    Maybe  :\

Hope that might give you a clue about where to start the 'hands on' investgations Buddy.

On the boxeye I think the front ones have slightly longer stems giving the bike ears like Plug from the bash street kids
