i get around 200 but mine will be different to yours as mine is the later one with a slightly bigger tank and i also do a lot of short journeys and getting around 48-50 mpg, which seems a bit low as most get mid to high 50's on here.

If it's a later tank it should be 20 litres in total, including 3.5 litre reserve, the older ones are 18 litres.
I try not to let my tank go under a third full at any time though, and i wouldn't have a clue about mileage.
I think cruising revs should be around the 4500-5000rpm from memory(i could be wrong?), although they do have a highly strung engine that doesn't mind being revved, hence the reason it redlines so high.

Agree with above - mine is also pretty much bang on 5k for 60mph in 6th gear and about 5.9k for 70mph

As for tank range, I get about 180 miles for 15 litres based on my fillups via Fuelly.

Standard gearing is 15 teeth front sprocket and 48 rear. As others have said yours isn't standard or your not in 6th gear. That's assuming your clutch isn't slipping  :eek , but I guess if it was it would have burned out by now.
I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to fuel consumption and always record how much I'm putting in. Driven sensibly and without much town work I consistently get 58 to 60 m.p.g.. Plenty others get the same. On my 2001 model this gives a range of at least 200 miles before the fuel low light starts to come on. Some others, who probably thrash about more than me, seem to get round the 50 m.p.g. mark.

If it helps, my FZ6 (which followed on from the FZS) runs 5k rpm at 60mph (standard sprockets on that are 16T front 46T back).

As people have said, start by counting the teeth on the sprockets (15f & 48r), it's only a few bolts on the sprocket cover, and make sure they're standard, and check the sprocket nut for any nastiness while you're at it.

Had 135 with a passenger on board, but a blasted car decided to change lanes about a quarter of a mile ahead of me so had to shut down, but there was more throttle for the taking!  :lol

Still don't know it's full potential, but i'll let you know when it happens, or read about me in the newspapers?  :D

This has helped me in the past with gearing conundrums... Hope it helps :)

http://www.gearingcommander.com/ Just whack in the make model and year of the bike, choose mph or kmh and away you go

P.s. mine will do an indicated 150, which on the dyno translated to 144.8 mph

has anybody noticed the obvious question (s) not asked as yet ? like are you a ballet dancer or a 5 ton porker ? are you 2 foot 8 inch tall or a team player for the harlem globetrotters? all effects the power to weight theories / drag.also the obvious rev difference when idle and `under load`.

I agree with you Ade, but surely a drop of nearly 1k in RPM  points to gearing being molested? My bike has std gearing and sits bang on 6k @ 70mph. I'm 5'1" and 85kgs BTW! ;)
