Fuel consumption
« on: 29 October 2013, 11:05:05 am »
Hi guys. I filled the fzs1000 up at a petrol station, £19 it roughly cost and my warning light has come on at 63 miles. Now I know I've been a bit rev happy because I have just up graded on the 600 however I expected a bit better than 63 miles lol. The MCN review said about 180 miles off a full tank.
Could you let me know what you guys are roughly getting from a full tank please

Fuel light comes on on my FZ1s at about 120, then the counter zeros itself and i have done about thirty on the reserve counter.

Sometimes light does not come on until 140, and all at good fun speeds.
I think i put about £23.00 in ,cant remeber,,oh and fill it up,,right up.even sit on bike and hold upright, fill to top. Then you will go about 180 to run out,,puuttt puutt pop

My fzs100 does about 48-50mpg. I put in 16.5 litres this morning and the trip metre wss at 179.3. I never need to put in more than 18 litres and on average I do between 160-190 miles. My riding is 95% commuting with about 7 mikes of country A roads and 10 miles of motorway where I cruise at a steady 90. I work days and nights so my days are quiet roads in the morning with heavyish traffic later and tge night shifts are busy going to work but lovely and quiet coming home.  Yehaa!!

Did you brim the tank?  It can take another 2 - 3 litres from the first time the pump pistol shuts off on you.

You need to do a careful fuel consumption test, I suggest.  You should be seeing 40+mpg in normal use, maybe mid-high 30s if you're keeping the rev needle above 7k rpm most of the time. :)

On my 1998 600 im getting about 130-160 for tank full . Light is a bit hit and miss tho , comes on just below half sometimes . Ive just serviced mine , but carbs could do with a sync still . Regularly put STP complete fuel  cleaner in . Most of my riding is commuting up the M3 around 80/90 mph.

Best way of saving fuel, SLOW DOWN! Lol!
Any speed where you feel the wind hitting you is just guzzling more fuel if your miserly minded.

I used to get 200 miles out of my 51 plate boxeye easily which was 55 mpg. I got 73 mpg out of her once, but that bored the shit out of me doing 55mph everywhere. >:(
Stop polishing it and ride the bloody thing!!

I get around 140 from brim to warning light on my (full-monty ivanised) Gen1.
It doesn't seem to make any difference how I ride it, it's always around 140. I don't know how anyone gets 200 to the tank out of them!

Sounds like maybe a fuel sender problem to me. Even with 'spirited' riding, 63 miles to a tank til warning light? Well, I'm sure you don't need anyone to tell you that ain't right. What did you manage to get in the tank when you filled up after that?

That's the important bit - will let you know if your bike is guzzling fuel (and that kind of mpg would be expected at a HARD track day pace), or whether it's just an issue with your fuel light!

I got an average of 52mpg over a 900 mile trip round Scotland, with a bit of luggage. We didn't hang about either.

My FZ1s is thirsty enough so judging by others responses. Obv the map on the PC111 would have a bearing on the fuel consumption, yeah? Must get mine looked at so

I get about 110 to reserve on my naked gen 2, or rather more if I'm following one of our friends on his Harley.

Thought I'd drag this old thread up instead of starting a new one.
Just wondering how much petrol you guys can get in your tanks?

I've got a naked gen 2 and from when the last bar is flashing to the first click at the pumps is only about £8?  I honestly struggle to get more than £10 in it most of the time and that with tesco premium fuel? The most I've managed is about £12.30 and that was sitting there for about 3 minutes forcing every last dibble in.
I only got 89miles from it before I needed to fill up again too but that's probably down to my riding haha

Doesn't seem right to me, from completely empty to filling it right up is about 18.5 litres, at the present cost £20.

I'd be inclined to carry a litre of petrol and actually run out and see how many miles you do - even proper thrahing should see 120miles.

Well I have a -2 front sprocket so my revs are higher than usual so would probably attribute the lower mpg to that but it's more the small amount I can fit in that worries me? I can't possibly see what there could be that would stop it filling up though? Unless theres a football in the tank that I've not noticed haha

Running a -2 front sprocket is just like riding along in 4th gear instead of 6th, so id expect that to be the biggest impact on your fuel consumption rather than your "riding" - but even so, it might be worth doing as someone else suggested and riding it till it actually runs out (with a can of petrol strapped on behind you), to see where "empty" is and what your true tank range is.

Our Gen 1 Fazer 1000 runs around 220 miles until the fuel light comes on (from full), even when blasting Lang pretty quickly (not getting overtaken by anyone).

Does running it to empty not harm a FI bike?  I've always been taught to avoid it with my previous carbed bikes because it tends to drag all the shit from the tank down into the carbs.
