Fazer is for short hops and hooligan mode, Busa is for long distance and hooligan mode, B-King is for drag racing and hooligan mode.....
Has that Busa pic been Photoshopped?

Walk away.
I had a similar issue when I bought mine and the exhaust studs made it a right pain in the arse job.
My Fazer currently has very good condition exhaust studs. Is there anything I can do to prevent future problems? I'm going to take all the nuts off one by one and slap some copperslip on but is it worthwhile replacing all the studs with stainless steel ones?
rob
It's probably not worth trying to get the studs out as you risk a chance of them snapping. As long as the nuts come off easily enough then removing them and applying a bit of copper grease to the studs once a year will be enough to keep things in good knick
Cheers, Dude.

They are quite thirsty. Pretty small tank. 17 litres will have you thinking about a fuel stop at anything over a hundred miles. Although, they can do over 150. It will make you feel and act like your shoe size every ride. You will watch the news reports of bike life teenage hooligans wheelie'ing down the street and instead of being shocked you will just scoff "fucking amateurs". Your close friends and family you ride with will hold back and pretend they are not with you and start saying things like "you're out of control dude" and "you need to have a word with yourself". Other riders on crotch rockets will keep glancing in their mirrors, then move over to the kerb to let you pass. All this time, you will be in denial and just think you're fucking great. As for any cons......I can't really think of any.
Classic. I'm almost tempted.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I think I'm going down the disc lock route. I'll get one of those luminous springy things that you tie to the grip to remind you to undo the lock.

Are there other brands of u-lock other than Yamaha that fit under the seat in the slots and clips or can anyone recommend a decent disc lock?
Cheers Rob

Ride safe man (rlkat )- but do you have any bends on your route
Not many bends. It was mainly A1 just to get back home.

Gold first gen Fazer 600 on the A1. I was heading north just after Scotch Corner, he was heading south. We both waved.

Fitted a Fenda Extender. Rode my new Fazer from Sheffield to back home in East Lothian. A bit wet around Newcastle but lovely further north. Did a few spurts of "camchain tensioner maintenance' (I believe that's the phrase) I will be doing more of it, now and again. Discovered an annoying buzz/vibration between 5900 & 6500 revs, which equates to cuising at 70 (plus or minus). Solution: cruise at 80 Got home and washed my bike.

Hi Rob, and welcome You'll get loads of good advice here. Looks a really tidy bike. Only bit I can add is the headers. They look original and in great nick, but the mild steel collector box can rust from the inside. So might be worth a check for any pinholes. Oh and I nearly forgot, the clock needs resetting
Clock: done.

The chances are that the fork oil won't have been changed so that could perhaps do with checking.
Will do. Cheers.

Welcome to the forum Rikat (Rob) As you can probably see, you'll need a thick(ish) skin and a sense of humour to survive on here but if you can put up with us you'll get some good advice and a bit of stick in equal measure Nice bike by the way. Are you planning to ride it much or keep it low mileage and mint?
Hi Vinny. I'm planning to ride it and re-live my youth (32 year old with Fazer) AND look after it. Hopefully it's long-term, after many years of big trailies.

Well wear Rob and best of luck with it. Maybe now it will get the usage it deserves
Keep an eye on the rubbers on it carefully as they are likely to perish and crack from age related lack of use. Check the intake rubbers and Vacuum take of point plugs after a few weeks of use for cracks. The vacuum take off plugs are even more prone to cracking than the intake rubbers. Check the tyre dates on the side wall of the tyre also, they will be the week number and the year since 2000, something like 4916 the 49th week of 2016 or 3609 the 36th week of 2009. Tyres more than 10 years old should be replaced (over 7, I would replace them) they go hard with age and grip level is greatly reduced.
The vacuum take offs look fine, as do the inlet rubbers. One of the vacuum take offs has been replaced for the Scotoiler vacuum feed. The tyres are fine. The paperwork backs up tyres changes. Currently Avon Storms. I see Russ has been given a bit of stick but he's a genuine guy and truly passionate about bikes.

Hi Russ. Thanks for all the extra bits and the bike is utterly and mind-boggolingly AMAZING for a 14 year old bike. 'Factory fresh' doesn't do it justice. You're a gent and I'm sure I'm going to enjoy this '03 model just as much as my '99 version, 18 years ago. I'm also looking forward to going through the FOCer's archives for hints and tips. cheers rob
